I was just reading about how the Islamic prophet Muhammad tried to kill himself three times. Is this true? Here is what it said: "...But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while and the Prophet became so sad as we have heard that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order to throw himself down, Gabriel would appear before him and say, "O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah's Apostle in truth" whereupon his heart would become quiet and he would calm down and would return home. And whenever the period of the coming of the inspiration used to become long, he would do as before, but when he used to reach the top of a mountain, Gabriel would appear before him and say to him what he had said before... ...I will go to the top of the mountain and throw myself down that I may kill myself and gain rest. So I went forth to do so and then) when I was midway on the mountain, I heard a voice from heaven saying "O Muhammad! thou are the apostle of God and I am Gabriel.... ...The inspiration ceased to come to the messenger of God for a while, and he was deeply grieved. He began to go to the tops of mountain crags, in order to fling himself from them; but every time he reached the summit of a mountain, Gabriel appeared to him and said to him, "You are the Prophet of God." Thereupon his anxiety would subside and he would come back to himself. ...O Khadija, I see light and hear sounds and I fear I am mad...The pre-Islamic Arabs believed in the demon of poetry, and they thought that a great poet was directly inspired by demons....This explains why Muhammad thought he was demon possessed, or influenced by demons; the Quran in many places reads like typical Arabic poetry... source
Dear Rebecca, the site like has pure intentions of mocking Islam and that's it. For a response to that article can be found here: http://www.answering-christianity.com/fatrah_rebuttal.htm
When I saw the URL, I thought it was an Islamic site. Menj's response to the article has been taken down: http://www.bismikaallahuma.org/Muhammad/fatrah.htm Only rebuttal to menj's rebuttal is up: http://www.answering-islam.org/Silas/fatrah.htm It looks like the writer on answering Islam believes Muhammad was demonically influenced.
Answering-Islam.org is NOT an Islamic site. It's a deceiving site created by Christian Extremists. If you would like list of trusted Islamic sites for any research let me know.
I do not agree with hadiths, but want to study them anyway. Since yesterday, I started looking at the bukhari ones at sacred-texts.com This site I think is a good one, and will spend time here. But I would like to find an additional islamic site that has easy lookup of specific questions. Do you know of any like that?
Speaking of mohammad, there he is right there ^ I wonder if Jesus is also a member of DP? Lots of popular people getting into SEO these days

Hi Rebecca, I use this as my primary source: http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/ The reason why is, it's neither Christian, Jewish or muslim biased. It's a gathering of the texts, by a university. This makes it a good source to get the "real" truth, and not watered down versions for the infidel, or watered up versions from sites that may not represent the full truth. Just pure scriptures, taken from the texts. Additionally, it includes multiple English translations of verses. This is useful for when the "translation card" comes up in debate. Here are some of the verses that make the hairs stand up on the back of most infidels necks, from the source.
