I think there were wars before people were using oil for energy. There will always be war. When the Middle East oil supply runs dry those countries will become poor and will take drastic measures to secure their place in the world. As much as the U.S. dislikes many of these countries now, it's better that they have money, as it keeps them temporarily content and less likely to attack U.S. interests.

If we had to live without oil today we would manage. The problem is that too many people are making a lot of money from oil.

Solar energy is useless, it doesnt provide anything close to what other sources can do.

By the time we run out of fossil fuel, one of the things will have happened
    1. We will have found a better source
    2. We will have found a way to artificially make fossil fuel
    3. We will all be dead by war.

That isn't entirely true. The problem is that you need silicon to produce the panels and currently their isn't enough silicon factories for the demand. When they resolve that problem prices will fall and it will become more economically viable.

Yeah.. its true that direct our technology today is inadequate to tap solar energy. But what we see as fossil fuel today is nothing but concentrated form of energy from sun itself, accumulated over since thousands of years. Even hydral power plants are indirect mechanism of taping the solar energy. How? The solar energy is used in causing water to evaporate, then we have clouds and rain, then it flows down from high land to low land, and we tap an insignificant part of the process to create electricity that runs the world. Ultimately almost all our sources of energy are in a sense solar energy.

    one of my favorite quote:
    live will find a way...

    don't worry... we'll survive.... we'll find a way...
    if not...

chimp's will replaced human, the way human replaced the dinosaurs, to rule the world.

Eventually oil prices rise to where the trillions of dollars backing the industry can't lobby hard enough to stop the forward movement of renewable energy technologies.

Solar power is already more cost effective in some areas in certain situations than grid power, and it's getting better daily (cheaper, more efficient, more powerful technology... tax credits, corporate incentives) believe me I know (I run www.solarpowerrocks.com)

    see this sick post:
    http://www.solarpowerrocks.com/solar-trends/a-sick-graph-2/

There will be a crunch, and it will suck real bad, and humans will overcome it.

Oil isn't running out, the so called "oil crisis" is a scam created by oil companies to create scarcity and drive up profits. If and when oil should run out, we have plenty of alternative energy technologies available. The problem is, the government has worked to block the public from accessing them.

Anyone who thinks we're really running out of oil is an idiot. Hubbert, the scientist of which you speak, is a front scientist for the seven sisters, the global oil cartels.

Think about it, Nigeria, Venezuela, Alaska, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Ecuador, Gulf of Mexico, Myanmar, and the North Atlantic all have oil, and this does not even include Central Asia. If all these regions have an abundance of oil, how is it running out?

25% of the worlds oil reserves are under the melting ice of the North Pole.

There is at least 50 years supply of oil and 500 years supply of coal.

On the other hand burning all that fossil fuel with heat the world bacl into jurrasic park

I can't wait that day . The world will be cleaner ,no more oil wars ,no polution and traffic chaos. Its time to thing seriously to start work out with solar and wind energy and partly with secure nuclear energy. And why not open the good old mines millions of people will have work like before the 60's when most of the coal mines closed one after the other.I know coal is polution but not so much like petrol.

We have got to respect our planet and stop raping it. We are wasting our natural resources, it's not just about oil & gas like some people might think, it's about fish, fresh water, lumber, minerals.... etc. And i'm not even talking about the changing climate.

The Amazon Rainforest (over half of the planet's remaining rainforests) is very important to the world, and it's being raped on a daily basis and for decades.

    Greed. :(

Instead of centuries of original reserves, we are left with decades. :( We are 'stealing' our children future. :(

Nuclear power is a great risk. What will you do with the nuclear wastes? We may glow a bulb now using the nuclear power, but since we don't know what to do with the nuclear waste, we just keep it preserved for the next generation to the pay for us. If we keep using nuclear energy without finding out a solution, very soon a day will come when we would need more energy to keep ourself safe from the nuclear wastes than what they can probably produce.
