Looking for direction - How to drive more than the 1 million uniques we recieve p/m

Since you already have a good site it would be much easier for you get more. Its the general rule, "success follows the successful".
Here are my few cents:
- You can always give part of what you earn to your visitors in ways like contest as others already specified.
- Advertising with heavy traffic sites like MySpace.com
- Build mailing list, and email periodically.
- Build a network of sites in different niches and cross-link each other.

 

We failed miserably with myspace advertising lol mostly due to lack of myspace friends to advertise to.. Guess we should have got in when making 100,000 friends was easy lol..

I agree, I can't seem to get a hand-hold in MySpace... Maybe I don't really "get it."

 

Im no "guru" but if you are making a profit, I think you should buy links on entertainment sites.

Im pretty sure the audience (including me) that visits wwtdd.com, gorillamask.net, break.com, nothingtoxic.com, etc, etc, etc, would get a kick out of your site.

These are the people who make stuff go "viral"

I don't know, I could be wrong, but something dosn't sound right here. 1 million hits in X amount of months, yet they don't know how to get any more???

My apologies if I am way off here, but when it comes to message boards, it's hard to tell fact from fiction.

The reason we are asking is because we've used every method we have had available on our current budget to get to the million. Looking for options we aren't using at the moment.

UNIQUE SITE + GREAT IDEA

How many of you have sites in a niche with 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 sites competing? You will never get to a million a month with a site like that.

My guess is the great idea was from a novice internet marketer (like me) and the growth of the site was bigger than the growth of the learning curve, that is why she is here to find new ideas.

do you think del.icio.us would be as wildly popular if it was on the domain anotherbookmarkingsite.com?

now the trick for suckered.us is to outmarket all the copycat sites that are bound to pop up. I think I am going to register kicked.us right now

Like we said we've spent a large sum of money already in various ways to market but we're looking for ways that we've not heard of.. sites we've not heard of that could be beneficial etc.

 

Probably you're already on it, but videos go viral if you make the hook solid enough. There's a lot of political/social traffic you could get if you did video expose's a la Michael Moore.

I must admit the "suckered" domain name IS catchy. I wish you the best of luck. I am pretty new here, but I have read that viral marketing can be pretty explosive if you know how to do it right.

 

I'm pretty sure you'll find kicked.us punched.us and almost every verb gone.

 

I would say use Google adwords,submit a press release,and make sure your on a dedicated server so your site doesn't crash.

 

Site will grow itself now. You already did the hard part pulling good amount of daily traffic in early stages. Now you can just keep doing what you been doing. Success will follow as it is with you now.

 

Sorry, , but I knew of no other way to put it.

Let me put it to you this way...in order to get a massive amount of traffic, like you have now, you have to pay for the advertising, like you have done in the past.

That is the reality of it all. There are no magic bullets. There are no secrets.

Askmen. com, for example, has over 3 million monthly visitors. They have had that since their second year of opening. They got that because they were given an Angel investor loan for advertising.

Of course ther are sites like craigslist.org, whose owner did very little advertising, but he is giving advertising space away. There's a difference.

I didn't go to school on marketing, but I still happen to be very good at it. I guess it's a little bit of street smarts, and, common sense.

These ideas that are heard over and over and over and over and over again on this board, such as Google adwords, submit to Digg, networking, and whatnot do not give you the results you are looking for. It's as simple as that.

Sure, they will give you, say, a few thousand a day, but I'm assuming you want more than that. AND, you want the traffic to be consistent!

Right?

A site that gets hundreds of thousands, to millions of hits a month advertises. Anyone who says different, and says he didn't advertise is a liar. Which I detest, because there are a lot of good people here who are looking for REAL ways to get such traffic. Not to be disappointed in the end, and then quitting.

Now, many are satisfied with just a few thousand a day. To them, that's a success. Nothing wrong in that, but many want more than that.

So...why don't you give these guys tips and the sources, advertising agencies, you went to that gave you that first million?

It wouldn't hurt you none, would it?
