Will Google start using Tracking codes in Search Results

Right now when u type in something into google, it just gives u a link pointing to your site.

You can look at your web server logs and it will have Google and the search url in there making it easy for you or web analytics programs to spot Google traffic to your site.

Shortly Microsoft is coming out with it's own version of Analytics, currently codenamed 'Gatineu'

Microsoft says that they will use passport id data and give you an enhanced report of your visitors like gender and stuff.

    Something kinda new.

Now Google can't do that cause they don't have msn messenger and passport and I was wondering maybe they would resort to scrambling their search results urls.

This would make it kinda hard for the Microsoft team to see, research or analyze Google traffic patterns.

    What do u think?

Would Google resort to something like this?

Google does track clicks occasionally and have done so for several years now. If you scour the various online forums, you'll find scattered reports of click tracking links in the search results. They don't seem to do it very often, so its likely to be primarily used for tracking search quality when they're running tests.

Google tracks your every click. Its also used in determining SERP results for the query.

If people search for "ABCDE" and click on 3rd results more than first 2, google will move the 3rd result to 2nd results and so on.

CTR plays a major role in SERP since its one of the important factor to know what people like.

Google already tracks it, and you can even see the sites if you are logged into your account when viewing the net.

I think that Google is also a good tracker and they have all the information they want but i don't think they will share it in the analytics so far.

I saw that thing in MSN's ad center and it is also used in Google Adwords because Google tracks down the highly paid keywords that can be used by the visitors to help webmasters think of the keywords/keyphrases that can give them higher traffic.

Google also gathers alot of data on user habits from the Google toolbar. Google is a master of data gathering and analysis, i dont think what MSN is doing will bother them.
