Following my new blogs sucesss getting 1300 RSS readers in 3 months I've written this guide on how to get RSS readers. This post isn't on my blog its a guest post on another blog. Next week there will be more guides on linkbaiting so you might want to subscribe to the feed How many readers do you have?
RSS is syndication of your entries into a universally readable file called "The Feed." Really, "The Feed" is only a text file using a specific type of mark-up language. The reason it's so great is because it can be read by any program running on any platform. Also, it's a "pull" technology rather than a "push" (like email). So subscribers get content only when they want to, which avoids any spam problems. It made it big as a transport mechanism for news headlines many years ago. It has since been widely adopted and used for all sorts of information exchange, including blog entires. So now there is an entire discussion online about how to market your RSS feed as a way to get more readers to your blog. It is here to stay. So you should do some reading on it.. There is material available everywhere... Hope that helps.. Cheers
Good summary purdue. Or i like to call RSS, Really Simple Scraping. Where splogs and MFA sites add your feed URL and pull your content on to their site automatically via a CRON while they sleep and earn Adsense. To combat it you publish partial feeds, which defeats the purpose and is annoying because you cant read it in your feed reader like it was intended so you may as well just visit the site anyway. So your not missing a whole lot, i actually go out of my way to disable feeds on any site/CMS i own.
As long as you add a link back to your site from every post in your feed scrapers are actually a benefit IMO. Every link helps.
Thanks! I've been looking for something like this for a long time! I really appreciate the information.
RSS is a way for people to read content from your site without actually having to visit the site. Its useful for blogs as they have content that changes quite frequently.
