I think this is still the ironclad definition of the next update:
    http://oyoy.eu/google/pr/?url=http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/listening-responding-refining/&#r

It gained links (from 0 to 3) with the backlink update accompanying what I think was a canonical update in July... but did not get a PR update.

I have a theory, that public backlinks must accompany any toolbar (or tool accessible) release of PR...

If you will give the tool a try, you can check PR and links across many d/c's, server status codes, headers, and more for one URI.

That page has to gain PR simply for existing on www.mattcutts.com ...
Certainly, we will see backlinks update on this URI shortly before the PR update...

i know following page with pr10 und pr9 listet:
    http://www.doheth.co.uk/info/list-of-web-sites-with-high-page-rank.php

following sites of those listet pr10 pages have had pr changes (none got pr11 ahaha...):

    http://www.apache.org/ 10 to 9
    http://www.apple.com/ 10 to 9
    http://www.cisco.com/ 10 to 9
    http://www.ibm.com/us/ 10 to 9

following sites of those listet pr9 pages have had pr changes (only first 20 pages chacked):

    http://www.archive.org/index.php 9 to 8
    http://www.arizona.edu 9 to 8
    http://www.brown.edu/ 9 to 8
    http://www.cbc.ca/ 9 to 7
    http://www.copyright.gov/ 9 to 8

could this mean google is starting to export pr for strong pages?

Well, they had to change few things - otherwise there will be "too" many pages with rank 9 or 10.

10 years later everyone would have page with PR 8 or higher.

Hmm, I am seeing a lot of ranking changes in Google search results. My PR7 directory jumped into page 5 for the term "web directory", page 8 for "add your link" and page 7 for "submit url".

Does that mean that some web sites - the established ones - are checked manually by Google staff ?

    Why should it be manual?

    Its strange.

About free months ago I ditched my .tk domain and bought a .com

Now my used to be PR0 domain (http://www.calumn.tk) has just got a PR1 and gone above my new domain in Google Search for my name.

Its strange because I never advertised it, but now its PR1. All my other sites are the same.

Yes no doubt they check a bunch of sites manually. They probably calculate the Pagerank on a localized test tool for a list of URLs first so when they start the DC rollout they can cross check the data is accurate.

If the numbers dont match they can do a rollback, recalibrate and export again. Seems logical from the bits and pieces of the process i've heard about.

I agree, but again, if they are doing it in batches for testing purposes, then some other blog should be showing changes for posts in that time frame, somewhere, somehow.

Does anyone see PageRank on a time stamped blog post from after April 3rd of this year? Or a white PageRank bar on a post from after July 4th?

    Thank you.

Posting in a large font doesn't give your posts any more credibility, vandermar - it just makes them more annoying.

You know that the ranking is not working well when John Cow himself does not rank first for his own name. A joke that is.

Its been known for a very long time that google has hundreds, possibly thousands of human evaluators. It was quoted at some conference not long ago that they have around 10,000.
