Can Outbound Links On The Index Page Lower PR

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by internetsmart, Sep 28, 2007.

I heard that too many, (or any) outbound links on the index page of your website can hurt your PR. Is this true?

So if I sell link ads on my 12 year old PR4 site, can that hurt my PR?

Depend by the number of the links. Isnt recommended up to 10-15 links. The worse thing could happend, you can be banned on google at all. I saw in DP a post, selling pr 6 links, and was banned by Google.
    Some ppls lost some money.

Outbound links will not decrease your PR. PageRank is purely based on your inbound links.

I prefer to minimise the number of outgoing links on any page, so maybe keep between 15 to 25 max. The links shouldnt lower your PR, but I feel too many could de-value or lower the PR given to other sites.

It wouldn't hurt your PR as KC Tan said, for PR is solely based on your incoming links.

It could hurt your rankings though, if you link to just about any site which is willing to pay money to get featured.

    Hey there,

Outbound links DO influence the PR rating of subpages...

Take your home page for instance. Say it is PR 8. Now say you have 4 links on your home page, 3 to other pages on your website and 1 link to an external site. Each link from your home page carries a PR2 vote (8 PR Home Page / 4 Links).

The link on your home page to an external source does not hurt the home page PR, but that extra 2PR vote from your home page could be used for other pages on your website.

    Check out this article:

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

if you sell too many links (like 150 links) , you can be sure that will hurt your seo but i dont think that 12 links will change anythink

Outbound can somehow decrease your PR. If the outbound link is PR3 and yours is PR6 - might hurt your website PR

Clearly outbound links have nothing to do with pr for the document that is receiving the links. The only way pr would be influenced is that there will be less pagerank available to pass to internal pages (so pagerank will leak from your site).

Outbound links doesnt affect your PR, since that is based on your incoming links, of course the sites getting links from you will get less weightage incase you have too many outbound links, however to give your visitors a useful experience it is adviseable to keep your outbound links to a max of 10

You might also search for "searchking" which G effectively shut down for selling PR a few years ago.
