Top 10 Reasons Why Google PageRank Matters

Discussion in 'Google' started by domainpubber, Sep 28, 2007.

OK, so I will probably be flamed for this post, but PR does matter, so I have made a top 10 list of reasons why:

    1. Measure of Popularity
    2. Ability to Pass Link Juice
    3. Sign of Domain Authority
    4. Influencing Those Who Matter
    5. Ranking of Inner Pages
    6. Indicator of Natural Linking
    7. Google Toolbar Indicator
    8. Model of User Behavior
    9. Brand Recognition
    10. Monetization

You can read the details of each reason in my blog posting. This is not meant to stir controversy or bent-out-of-shape debate, but rather as hopefully useful information, so I won't bother to respond here to comments, insults or threats :D

I agree with some, disagree with most but what the hell does "8. Model of User Behavior" mean?

apart from no 5, most of those don't matter to most people who have websites. If you're selling your site, or selling links, maybe, but most people aren't. And 99% of the people who use and visit a site don't know what it is anyway, so aren't going to be impressed if yours is bigger than theirs.

I agree with 9 out of 10 of the reasons that page rank is important and I also think that website visitors that happen to have websites themselve tend to take your page rank as an important factor when weighing the content of your pages, for some reason.

I'm not sure what you are referring to regarding the model of user behavior...
Are you referring to the value of a visit according to the google analytic???

    Good list.

I just don't get why the toolbar is so great.

    "Model of User Behavior"

Lol..how much did you smoke before writing that one.

Though some other points were pretty good.

Hmmm ... seems maybe I need to change #8 to "Impress Your Friends". LOL

The point I was trying to make is that PR models the behavior of users in predicting what links are more likely to get clicks. Wasn't smoking anything when I wrote it and it is based on research but I guess the point is either not clear or irrelevant to the whole point.

A lot of those aren't important and some just aren't true

Just take #1 for example, page rank has nothing to do with popularity

Actually, your quite wrong. PageRank is gained when you have backlinks. Backlinks help increase your Search Engine Position. When your search Engine Position increases, so will your traffic.

Not really true, you can have a lot of back links with no traffic

There are hundreds of pr 5+ sites with less than 100 uniques a day

Means, they are targeted wrong keywords. If the site is only about a specific cancer, no matter how good the site is, it will never have thousand of visitors per day.

The OP said it was a measure of popularity, Not it will increase your popularity. Both cases would be incorrect though.

Like Rob said high PR sites don't always have a lot of traffic, Plus i could buy any PR if i had the money, So that isn't a measure of popularity, it's just a measure of how many high PR links i have purchased.

I disagree. The PR toolbar is mostly only important if you are selling links. Otherwise it shouldn't be such a big concern.

Page rank matters but when it comes to toolbar PR, don't be so obsessed.
