:confused:Ok I have had a couple of people contact me about setting up a directory in fact the latest one wants bulk pricing for 200 directories using the free version of phpLd and a category dump what would some basic charges be? and one other questio approximately how long do you think it would take to set them up?

and mods I am sorry if this is in the wrong section but it is about directories

    - charge would be a million dollars because this person is likely a spammer.

$30 per directory usually, or $40/hour.

However, if he wanted 200 doing, i'd do it for $5 each...thats $1000. I'd also use some of my own themes in there ;)

200 installs isn't easy it gets boring and annoying very fast I would charge around $20-$30 per. install then $5 per any extra mod depending on the dif. or time it takes.

An un-wrapper could easily be written that would automatically install all the necessary files, folders and database files. The cost for a good programmer to do that would probably 1/2 the price of what you guys suggesting because only 1 page has to be written ... not 1000 manual installations.

The same could be done with a zipped file for templates, fresh skins all around.

another benefit is that directories would take seconds to set up. Theoretically, this entire process can be done within hours of getting the script written.

I love automation!!! It saves me hours each and every day.

Don't sweat it, it's just terminology.

Basically that would be a script (php, perl or other) that would take a zipped file (phpld or whatever) you upload or submit and expands it on your server. After that it would connect with your sql (probably mysql) and set up your database for you. In short it would automate the entire setup process with a single keystroke.

What it does is "unwraps" a file on your server .. hence the name unwrapper script

It can be done for a price around $400 - $500 (without a script as told by ErectADirectory).

With a script, it's certainly an easy job.

Not familiar with either of those scripts, but I'm sure there are some prebuild solutions out there for CMS software ... not certain about directories in specific.

Something similar could be done using a default skeleton folder setup under your reseller account. Although, you would still have to deal with the db side of things on your own I'm sure.

That's quite a quote Fastian, $2-$3 an installation is far cheaper than anyone else will quote I'm sure. Make sure not to cut your legs off though, the lower you drive your prices ... the lower others will also.

    I understand your point.

That's infect the quote I got from my friend. (Not mine actually)
And that's what he thought is right price depending on the time it will take him to do all work. (Mind you, he is working in an ISP and perhaps has nothing much to do in office ;) )

I think it depends how much time you have to spare and how fast you can setup everything.

It would be neat to have a list of installers who offer this sort of service. Is anyone interested? I have at least ten people inerested in installing a blog with a directory. I am not going to get around to it.
