How can I preserve the PR?

    Hi there,

Presently I have a site with PR 3 and with PR predicted as 5 (in next update).

Now, I have to slowly move this site to a new domain name to avoid some issues. I will have the previous name too.

What is the best way to do this and can I transfer the PR to new name and new site by following any special procedure in redirecting the present site to the new site.

Should I do 301 permanent redirect?

I did get an answer in another thread that the PR can be preserved, but I am looking for much detailed answer or any link to threads or articles on this?

Should I wait till next update is over?

    Thanks,

A 301 redirect is what you want to do. What type of web server are you running on?

I host with hostgator and I believe they use Linux Red Hat Red Hat 9.0

How far this will effect search engine results, will they spider the new site automatically, or should I submit new name again?

    Thanks

This thread has some info for doing a global redirect with Apache. They will spider it automatically.

Is there a tool that predicts your next PR ranking?

It's pretty accurate I think. It's predicted my PR's in the past. I checked a couple of sites I'm working on and it showed the PR's I expected (0 to a 4)

Are these mostly for sites with 0 PR or are these established sites that you did a bunch of link building for and wanted an accurate estimation?

    It must be accurate.
I have both +ve and -ve news.
It predicted a pr3 site to be PR 6 and a PR 5 site to be PR 0
    So......

Darn, I almost tripled my number of pages/content and yet no PR increase. Is it possible that since I just posted the content less than a week ago, Google hasn't recognized it?

Your post suggests you know little to nothing about PageRank. PR is something that is based on the back links your site has, not necessarily the content.

I suggest to you go to google and search for Page rank and read.

    Good luck.

Besides, you have to wait for PR update - and it happens not as soon as some of us would like - definitely not every week ;) (if I'm not mistaken, the last was somewhere in the end of October, and the one before this was in July)
