Google does not show all links and does not count all links like yahoo does. Just keep getting links and you will do fine.

Most sites have half as much links in google as yahoo or less.

Google only displays a small random samplling of their links with the link: command. But if you go into Google's Webmaster Tools you'll see your full link Google link profile. I think Google does this to keep webmasters guessing (about their competitors) and to keep people from figuring out their algo.

For this reason I use Yahoo Site Explorer to compare other sites to each other and to mine but Google's Webmaster Tools is a great way to look at the links coming into your site.

The competitors can and do use the links of one another to help with their own link building. You can learn a lot by following your competitor backlinks.

Actually the opposite is more accurate.

It is Yahoo that indexes new pages faster...speaking from personal experience.

Agreed.. Yahoo generally indexes new pages faster.. or at least they let you know they know about the page sooner than Google does.

And yes.. Google generally does not qualify or recognize as many pages as backlinks as Yahoo does for any given site. Google has higher standards.. or something.. :)

Yahoo will display all your backlinks but google displays only backlinks to high PR pages. Hence, google will always show fewer backlinks than yahoo. There is a difference between the algorithm used by google & yahoo.
