Spammy sites covered in search links - are they affiliates of someone?

    Hi there,

This is a bit of a random thread to start but I was just wondering if someone could help me.
Basically if you type in a random number or letters as a URL (275.com for example) you will be taken to a site with a list of general categories and a search box.
I'm just wondering, how do these sites make their money? They must be affiliated to someone, or earn for every link that is accessed via their site - who is it that pays them?

Usually they all have the same sort of template and colours used etc, and are covered in pop ups.

Thanks for any helpful replies :)
    Matt

Those are parked domains. Google "domain parking".
