Is web directories dependent on google or google dependent on web directories?

Is web directories dependent on google or google dependent on SPAM-FREE web directories?

 

I would think both...

while google can offer them in their "search results" it depends much on the backlinks
and the best way off doing this is threw SEO wether its directories,blogs,social bookmarks,ect ect.

Many directories used to use PR as a way off knowing whats quality and a general refrence in
making general considerations but that has now become irrelevent as they dont update PR frequently
and many have "gamed" PR so...

Directories Depend on Google

Google is NOT Dependent on web directories. If all directories are removed, Google will still keep rocking providing very relevant search results on top to its users.

 

How will they rate whos who and where they belong in the search results?

 

Do you think Google ranks sites based on directory links ? Are you sure ? They dont even have a look at it. They look at overall link popularity of the website. You think directory links contribute to SERPS ? There are better and more efficient ways to build link popularity which work 100 times better.

Your Hotels in las vegas has yahoo as the 3rd link.

You wont find many directories with just 2 words.
try above and you will find directory links under that phrase.

Directories depend on Google = 100% correct.

While recent changes in Google's algo show that Google is now more depending on its own evaluation about a site so role of directories seems to go in low profile. This argument needs few weeks to get approved or disapproved.

 

I can see yahoo directory there. Yeah i agree that way you can always find some occassional terms where some directories categories might be ranking but that doest justify the term that "Google depends upon web directories" . All directories together (excluding yahoo , dmoz , business.com etc) wont even be of a total worth of hardly say few million $$ and you say a company of over 150 billion US$ depends upon them. Total rubbish

LOL, yeah what a bullshit question. Google can remove all web directories from its index in a day

 

Google has taken dmoz data for site listed in domz. So they both dependent on each other, but google is the biggest search engine and dmoz is the biggest directory, Google does not take care of most directories. And we need time and hard work to show that we offer quality internet directory as dmoz.

For most of us here (the directories owners), we live under google indexed pages and SRPs.

I get most off my hitz from DP and other places where ive advertised links and banners.

Biz-Giant yesturday broke over "800" uniques and google only reffered 15 off those so far...

Ya you are right, but google got a heavy foot print in the search market, dont you think so. Where do you search when you need to find something on the net. and personally i believe google gives best and the most relevant results among all the search engines and this is the reason they are market leaders. Perhaps they have the most advanced search technology and algorithms tens of times complex than their peers.

 

That is because you own a web directory so you get traffic from DP. The internet is not about web directories. Talk about traffic to sites which are useful to the people.

I own a site related to Entertainment and i get 90% of hits ( about 500 per day ) from Google itself. another 50 hits say from Yahoo , MSN etc.

Normally, google send you most SE traffic. I think most directories owners would think so. Yahoo has more indexed pages but I only get 5% of SE traffic from it, others even less.

 

Haha. i did not want to sound offensive to you , since we are good friends.

But i dont think web directories DEPEND upon google. using the word DEPEND is too much . If google removes you from its index , what can you do , you cant do anything infact. And the sales of directory will be fucked if it is removed from google's index, since people buy links for Search Engine benefit.

uncoverthenet still receives daily submissions as i see many being submitted.
