In person: Ask for directions to some location (even if you already know). Online: Ask for help. Like, " I was wondering if you could help me with something..." then whatever topic you can dream up. Actually this is from a professional sales consultant and it does work. People, especially women, cannot resist the opportunity to help someone. For example, if you ask a girl how to get to the beach and she can tell you, she will light up like you wouldn't believe. Then, by her reaction, you will know whether to take the conversation further.
It also works to an advantage not to know their language too well (like me living in Costa Rica). Girls will take the extra time trying to explain something to you. Must be the motherly instinct in them.
pick up lines don't work in my book...be whitty and make them laugh..If you can make a girl laugh she'll feel comfortable around you right away. Most girls are shy, if you can make them giggle a little they will feel comfortable, which is exactly what you want. If you really wanna try some sort of pickup line then walk up to a girl and tell her you got in an argument with a friend of yours..He has a girlfriend who kissed another guy and you wanna know if they consider that cheating or not...Sound's like a great way to break the ice.
