how many keywords?

Hello,
I have a personal website with 5-6 topics.. say like jokes, shayaris, webmaster tutorials and all..
Well now i wanted to know while submiting my link to directories can my keywords be of any big quantity? I have like 45-50 keywords for my site ready now.?
can it be a problem or is it ok? if problem then how??

45-50 sounds high! I usually go for around 10 for a new site. Focusing all of my efforts on getting top rankings for those 10 keywords. If you do the right research, you can see which supply the most traffic and possible to achieve for a site of your status.

Just my 2 cents...

 

The problem with having that many keywords, is that you're going to be diluting your ability to optimise for all of them at once. Better to pick out a few that are most relevant and not too competitive, optimise and target for those.

 

the smaller number of keyword you target the better, usually I target 3-5 keywords for my site.

 

every directory may have its own limits - just submit and look at the submission guidelines for each directory. the number of keywords may vary from 5 to many dozens - and some directories need NO keywords since it may crawl your real pages.

 

I think its better to target 5 to 6 keywords.More keywords will not give u anything.

 

That are way too high for a start. You try to choose among those 45-50 keywords which you think are the better..

 

Will be hard to focus for you with 45-50 keywords, try to narrow it.

 

I think only 10 keyworda are sufficient and easy to give importance.

 

Choose the more relevants, no more than ten keywords, six is ok.

 

One thing that no one seems to mention: search volume. Run your list through overture and wordtracker, and lose the keywords with no volume. Keep only the higher numbers and put those in the link anchor, use the rest to support your descriptions.

45-50 keywords is, as many have said, far too many for your home page. But you said that you have 45-50 keywords for your site. If you have a good number and variety of pages, that may not be a problem at all. Each page may be focusing on two or three specific keywords out of those 45-50, and that is good, not bad.

My website has about 130 unique-content pages, and each page targets a few keywords specifically relevant to that page. If I added it all up, I would probably be targeting several hundred keywords. And it's working (over 4,000 page views today).
