I'm sure it's not in his best interest to look like somebody who attacks somebody and then sucks up to the same person because he thinks it benefits him somehow. He does stand for something ... right?

I just noticed earlier today when i ran threw all my directories that 1 directory
was not showing for its name.. 2bzd directory which rather puzzled me
as ive never linked high and just was submitted Free regular directories.

Now i check it a few hours later and its back to normal and the cached dates
have improved as most where from middle to end off august and most are now sept.

So i have to wonder if they are just being placed in "limbo" till they are manually verified
for backlinks or whatever reason?

Very valid point, and a possible explanation for whats going on. I guess the length of time the others are taking to come back is quite excessive, as far as I know none of the bunch of 60 or so have their listings back in Google yet, I would have thought a few would have been processed and re-entered by now if they were being checked. The longer none of them come back the more it looks like a penalty, but I guess we need to give it a couple more weeks before we really know.

 

Well im thinking that IF <--- Big IF... they are going threw each directories backlinks and checking
each one manually then i can see where it would take all of an hour or two to check 2bzd...

Now compare mine to the big directories with a few hundred thousand or Alives over a million ...
this would literally take a week or two to rummage threw and figure out whats ok and whats not...

Which brings me to my next question...

Is every "link" a seperate violation?

My hunch is that they are working on an algorythmic filter and have applied a hand job whilst the filter is being tested. Perhaps your site passed the new filter?

 

Well i would have to agree a filter is in place somewhere somehow...
This would be my hunch as well... Hand Job

I guess we can all site here and ponder the "What IF" theories but we wont know more till
google actually says something or enough facts are brought out that we can safely say ok
"this is whats going on" and this is what we must do so as not to be in violation...

People state they are not happy with Google for taking this stance, however it was Google who provided the platform for paid directories owners to make money in the first place.

I have not had the time to check however it would be interesting to see if there is a trend between the directories unaffected and the ones that are under penalty.

I do not agree with everything Google does, the running of DMOZ is horrific, PPC too expensive and adsense revenue pitiful however on this occasion I totally agree with the stance they have taken. The downside is, it came as a shock and has probably cost a few people a lot of money.

One thing I am not sure of.

If your site has a link on one of these banned sites would it be wise to ask for it to be removed?

 

No I dont think so - just accept that the link is probably counting for nothing.

I cant see Google penalising webmasters who have submitted to a directory that "may" have a penalty - the customer submitted in good faith

 

Yes ive being checking a little but not enough time to acuritly state that anything is FACT and not speculation.

DMOZ vs Paid Reviews

Well i could always just submit or forget with dmoz or if i want my site listed just "bribe an editor" or "face extortion" as "shoe money" did
(Note: Only a few rotten apples in dmoz not all are like that or do things off the sort) Dont forget they work for FREE for ggle but im sure thiers a little system in place where they all benefit is some way or another... list thier sites, ect ect.

A paid review directory is what it is... and the highest is yahoo directory at $299.99 then the others botw, business.com .. and then you have Aviva and Alive then it shoots downward to affordable or reasonably priced reviewers for webmasters, small businesses,ect ect... with those willing to thier jobs as editors and recieve quality sites and build thier indexes while assuring that the site in question is what it is and offer a vote of confidence that a human reviewed it.

Im in most of those and i havent been harmed and it would be ignorent on my part to even think that those sites submitted within are in any harm.
Its the "Directories Integrity" if anything thats in "Possible" violation not those included within.
