Yeah, but that doesn't mean it's completely accurate. It's just understood because U.S.A is all over the freaking place, so people just assume that by 'American' they're referring to U.S Americans. And probably because it's shorter to just say "American" rather than "U.S American". Just like some people might say "USA" rather than "United States of America". But our country is not named "USA", that's just a shortened nickname.
Please read what I wrote one more time. I dont talk about what we refer to in our daily talk. I dont talk about what we refer to in our daily talk. I am talking about the correct title of some people after placing them geographically. You dont know many people from Peru, Brazil or other countries do you? Many of them dont use the term americans on US citizens because they feel like americans when they are from Brazil, Peru or where ever.
and how many people from South America that you know? citizens of the United States are generally referred to as Americans. geographically speaking, people from the Unites States are generally referred to as Americans. we are not referred to as United States Americans, just Americans, geographically speaking. if i was from Brazil, i sure as shit wouldn't call myself an American cause i wouldn't be, i would be a Brazilian. what planet are you from anyway?
You are americans of course, as the guys from Brazil also are americans. A brazilian guy is living on the american continent, making him an american. What in that logic do you not understand? Do you understand when I say that I am a norwegian and a european? Or do you disagree on that? Or that a chinese guy is an asian?
thats nice, your Norwegian. and when America is mentioned in the news or newspapers in your country, just where do you think they are referring to? when the news or newspapers in your country refer to the American President or the American military, who are they talking about. the United States. America
I am going to go with a 'United Stater' or a "United Statican" This is a very good question, I never really realized the term 'American' can not possibly be correct for identifing someone specifically from the United States.
You can call me Sir. If your hot you can call me Big Daddy! American is generally reserved for the United States although Canadians are called Canadians (from North America), South Americans=South Americans, Central Americans, Mexicans etc etc. They all live on the same coninent but if someone says "she is American" we can safely assume the mean the United States. If some lives on the conitinent outside of the US and gets their feelings hurt cause you didn't call them an American. Too bad.
All right, you jump the parts where I say that I am not interested in what either we, terrorists, news papers or anybody else are referring to in our daily talk. I am interested in the correct technical term. Ok, you dont understand what I am saying so I will stop the discussion with you here. Anybody else feel free to comment.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americans this supports us both and i have never known of a technical term that your looking for.
Yes, this supports us both. Are there a term in common use that are exclusive for US citizens? Or what is the most used term that are exclusive for US citizens? Are they european?
please read what you wrote, you asked a question on a national level and then tried to use other international rules to apply to a national issue. American/s is the correct term
i always thought Australians were Australians. Australia is a continent. its not Europe or Asia, its Australia.
