This is probably because the other sites have very good SEO and do a lot of quality link building.

Yeah. I've noticed that Text Link Ads doesn't have "Text Link Ads" in their title bar. They have "TLA".

Wouldn't surprise me though if they were banned, being text link salespeople

Text Link Ads probably gets more than enough backlinks to earn that top position over a sitepoint article. They should at least be on the first page. Google definitely tinkered with their index to remove TLA from the top results. They would have trouble doing this with Adwords, because they have certain legal obligations to their advertisers. As long as TLA makes the high bid and does not violate Adwords terms, Google would have no right to prevent them from being displayed first, and they could face civil litigation if they did.

yes,I have seen this before itself

    Google is a good advertiser,

They are blocking free traffic to text link ads by manually tampering with search results,

By this they are forcing TextlinkAds to advertise more on Google adwords which in turn will earn more money for them!

The advertising legal slant is interesting. Couldn't they in theory add "sites that broker paid link exchanges" to their "unacceptable sites" for AdWords? c.f. warez etc.

    They dont have to

It says selling links is against their Webmaster Guidelines..

TLA can call themselves a broker all they want... the reality is they sell links.

Think file sharing, record label profits and Napster to get a better understanding.

Google has the right to shit can anyone who does not play by their rules.

Any business can enforce it's right to ban anyone from their facilities real world or virtual.

Google dislikes TLA.. and the way they sell links.. So Google most probably has banned TLA or bring down their rankings manually..

Google want the money from TLA but do not want to give them the natural traffic they deserve. (Yes the Natural Traffic they deserve)

That is again the bad mentality of Google owners..

    Worse than evil.

That's not actually true. There are rules that Google, or any business, have to follow.
