It's official Google has opened up a can of whoop ass on directories

Maybe not but it sure makes us feel good posting our feelings on the subject. If you don't like seeing ladies cry then go post somewhere else.

 

When a site loses its credibility in the eyes of Google, it will give more weight to the information about the site than to the site itself.

This seems logical to me.

Another theory, maybe Google has dropped directories in an effort to get (or force) them to take Adwords ads, fighting over the top spots and raising the CPC and allowing big G to make some money from them... Google wouldn't be so manipulative just to earn a few dollars... would they...

 

Read it as a warning. What they are saying is that they can and in extreme circumstances they will. Its just a pity that some people are not listening. What must they do to get the message to sink in?

That is why Google went after on some sites because of PROFIT, DECEPTION and MANIPULATION.

 

Couldn't agree more. What makes everyone think that the "Big Guys" aren't doing anything wrong?

 

Exactly, although I'd hardly call them 'big boys' big in ego and PR but nothing more, in fact they could be put to shame by a lot of other dare I say 'lesser mortals' who have directories with far more content and quality.

 

I have just been having a play - go the the blog on Aviva and paste a sentance or 2 from a post into Google.

Nope - dont show up

Now - that says to me it has lost all SERPS, not just name and KW's (I might be wrong but not showing up for a 2 sentance search seems bad)..

Yet we know it has not been de-indexed from the site: command

However - the "Supps" tab has been removed - this means the entire directory might have been put in the Supplementals but we have no way of telling now.

Just some thoughts

 

I have checked alive and aviva...Strangely I didn't find them. Are they indexed? ...or BANNED?

It would seem that some sites /blogs / directories where penalized for whatever reason as nobody has found the true answer yet, though you will here the jackels chanting about everything and anything.

Ill remind you Both have still retained the authority status and If google wanted those directories gone it would have de-indexed them plain and simple..

My estimation is that they will return within a couple months and be just as strong if not stronger.

They all charge a fee. The reason for the charge could easily be "to be listed" as much as it can be "for the time it takes to review a site". We all have expenses, so we should be able to charge for any reason. Stinkin' Google...grumble, grumble!

 

You know Malcolm sometimes I don't know if your a fighter or a sucker. Be firm buddy. Or are you just trying to protect your investment because of this. Or are you afraid losing sponsors when you have to resort to kissing. This is not about authority or whatever I guess this is about the new wave of betterment for everyone not just for the select ones.

 

Because even though best of the web is a liar (they claim to be the oldest directory on the web) they still have content, even if lots of it is suspiciously like dmoz.

 

Its just seems funny how we all of a sudden forget whom our freinds and collegues are....
you know those that helped us to where we are today....

Ive read all kinds of comments here from people attacking everybody and i just feel its
wrong as nobody is perfect and they are paying thier price by what google deems fit.

All those directory owners are still indexed and are penalized "nothing else" just like many sites not just directories.
Each one did whatever they did and got penalized simple as that.

Last time i checked alive still has and retains his authority status and im very certain that aviva does also. thats what i ment above
