Get real. THIS is the biggest turnaround in the directories. I a short time all the seo webmasters will know this happend and things will go down.

Do you think Jeff/Chris and all others enjoys reading stuff like 'nothing changes' or 'be proactive'

Do you really know how much work they put into creating the big directories?

    Show some respect please.

    btw, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=forplex&btnG=Google+Search

You need to go into another business then if this is a non event for you, coz you have one of the better names but even yours is penalized http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=forplex&btnG=Search  Your either one calm dude or someone who's not quite telling it how he feels. ;)

I've also noted that delimitation.net - Chris Hoffmans webmaster directory has not only disappeared for a search of 'delimitation webmaster directory' (the offical title and site name) but also completely for the search term 'webmaster directory'.

ROFL, "trust me, Google knows who I am", :D you crease me, I bet your all the buzz in the canteen malcolm. Domain you tried isn't mine but nice try, do what we all do and type in say Biz-King, theorangepages, avivadirectory, these are type of search results that we're all talking about or am I wrong?

@Whatifind; I have nothing against the two people you mention, don't even know them but why should I respect them? For thier shameless abuse of PR and where its got them. Cmon' this bowing to them for wasting all that money is pathetic. I'll give them respect, for making it clear to me that their way is the wrong way.

Been watching squidlink.com for the word "premium directory" and it jumps everyday from page 1 to page 2, sometimes over 10 places at once...

    Really weird Serps...

It's not a bash fest, its a FACT FEST, people like you keep trying to play it down when in reality it could be a sign of serious things to come for the directory industry if we don't pay attention.

I think Pete is right. Google rankings is just one external factor that influences business. I for one rely on many forms of traffic, a slight drop in google rankings hasnt harmed me. I had the highest ever traffic yesterday(although not according to Mr Dumb alexa) so low google rankings havent harmed me.

The SERPs have never jumped this much all year, perhaps algorithm changes, or other factors have caused this upset. Personally, the last time i saw this happen i also saw googlebot pay extra visits to my site. A few days after that, the latest PR was exported to the toolbar. Perhaps we will see things more clearly in a few weeks. For now too many people are getting concerned over nothing.

Dont run when the hurricane hits town, run when it rips your house out the ground ;)

You say that like Google is the be all and end all of directories.

Yes we should take note that Google has clearly changed their algo, but at the end of the day none of you know why and all of this is pure speculation.

It's not over nothing Mikey. Look http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=avivadirectory&btnG=Search
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=alivedirectory&btnG=Search
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=alive+directory&btnG=Search
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=aviva+directory&btnG=Search

I see no sense in hiding behind the finger. The biggest directories in industry are penalized. personally, I see no reason in webmasters submitting their sites to these directories. If I where the owner of these directories, I would speak with my lawyers.

What good would that do? Google provides a 'free' search service - essentially it is entirely up to them what they do and do not publish! Anyways what would these lawyers do? Take google to court? Whats next? Shall we sue Microsoft?

My view is that this is simply a change in algo - after all aviva (for example) is an authority site... give it a week or so and im sure we will see these above mentioned sites reappearing... why do we always assume the worst when something we don't fully understand happens?

I am sure they have consulted their attorney's. If I had shelled out good money for a bad link I would most certainly be asking for my $$$'s back and I am sure there are a lot of people who feel the same. This is what happens in all these scams. Try googling for the Bangkok gem scam and you will see what I mean.
Where are they? Dont they generally call this ducking and diving?

Very nice advice there Mikey I guess I have to tell that to the whole world now. You have no idea what is LIFE is all about when you speak of your quotes. I have grew up in Asia experiencing these hurricanes and I have been here in the US at Louisianna helping in the water damages. People who stayed in their houses drowned or died just to inform you besides the houses being ripped apart.

I think someone posted it was a Nuke not a disaster. :D

Just because these directories suddenly don't rank in Google doesn't mean the value of the links has changed.

The links might not have passed PR for years as far as we know.

Perhaps they are just not interested in all this speculation and are working on their sites like the rest of us should be.
