Home page suddenly dissapears from SERPS?

Discussion in 'Google' started by gordano, Sep 3, 2007.

Has anyone got thoughts on what is happening...

Home page was ranking in top 10 for many competitive terms until a few days ago, checked today and it has dissapeared in SERPS.

Site command not longer shows the home page indexed

The site has not employed any black hat SEO, etc.

    Domain is www.simple2rent.co.uk

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Thanks

    Gordano

Google is playing around with search results. Wait a few days and see what happens. I would not worry unless page drops down to 4th page in results and does not come back up.

Don't take any drastic actions, it will be back with couple days or week.

I have a similar problem with one of my sites too, home page is at the end of results and even inner pages out rank the index page for most of my terms, but your case is other, just wait its just a google mistake, your homepage will be back soon, sit back and don't worry too much

Thanks for the feeback. I have experienced SERPS changing many times, but this seems to be a complete loss of the home page, it doesnt even show in the site command. Really weird.

Yes its normal. Google is about to take a turn... the results you see are from a single datacenter.... check peroidically and you might see more changes.

I have the same problem, home DC is not showing my page in index at all for two days. Ran a check multiple DC's at this site and found that my site is listed in nearly all of them, rsing slowly in the SERPs over my last search. My (hope) guess is the sites which have been getting a lot of SEO are disappearing briefly for reranking, and that the DC's which show the site are updated, while my home DC is slow to show. Time to move, I guess?

your organic G traffic probably affected...

I see some of your keywords not in top 100 from few countries... but don't worry we know it will come back.

I think ur competitors got more backlinks with Anchor text.So build more backlinks to keep ur SERP static.

Thanks for your feedback, but this is not the issue. There are enough backlinks and key words pointing to the site for ranking, in fact for some terms it has been consistently in the top 10 (google uk) since the start of tihs year.

Like some other comments in this thread my only guess is that this must be an error by google whilst it is implementing algo changes and that it will correct itself in a few days. If not what has happened to my site could happen to many others.

Thanks for this feedback, I didnt think to check multiple datacentres

anyway, I checked around 20 DCs and found the home page appearing in only 3 of them
    72.14.207.104
    72.14.207.99
    72.14.205.99

Hopefully these are not the last few DCs to be updated with my site ot be wiped from Google ... just maybe these DCs contain new data being rolled out to others???

Do regular link building. And relax its not a new thing. Your website has pretty good back links.

    Don't worry.

    Dude,

It is duplicate content issue - Goog is indexing this as your homepage, not the root domain:

    http:// www.simple2rent.co.uk/ index.asp?key=1

Why? Cos thats the url that your "home" link links to

Amazing how much "advice" you have been given without taking the time to check your site for you

Thanks for your feedback. I knew of this issue but need to get my developer to fix it. I hadnt prioritised this because I have seen many sites with the same issue and all of those seem not to be penalised. ... and wouldnt google drop the non root page ( www.simple2rent.co.uk/index.asp?key=1) as it is a duplicate of the home page (www.simple2rent.co.uk/) wich has 100s of links pointing to it?

You simply have 2 homepages - in fact your may have 4 or more if the non "www" is not 301'ed. (Canonicalization)

It is a major problem on a lot of sites :)

    best get it fixed
