I havent seen this on my client sites nor do I have problem on my directories either. But I dont have any PR to speak of and I have made sure that no one can mistake them for "quality" sites. Is it only effecting high PR sites? Are they targeting paid links as threatened?

**Just a heads up to someone... **

Some very nice member decided to give me red rep with a comment "ass kissing"

Oh yes? Sure, I need it quite a lot, in fact I love kissing "arses" around, but remember morron, I alway sign my red reps, I don't leave those and hide behind..

Some people really deserve what they have...

price is based on quality. If you want a permanent featured link in a quality directory like alive, $300 is a cheap price...

You're entitled to your opinion. I don't think "cheap price" is the term I would use, though ;)

That price is for a permanent listing not annual.

And yet another morron worried about my posts...

Another st*p*d s*n of a .... giving red rep without having the guts to sign.
Tss tss... I'm so worried... (I have 2 reds and 7 greens in this thread...)

Again, starting a directory with this name is trying to grab easy quick money, so...

You guys really don't have the faintest idea what business is, nor how to survive this web biz world.

What Chris achieved with alivedirectory is awesome, made with loads of effort and very hard work.
Do I need Chris? No, I don't, he's an advertiser like others, so I don't need to scratch his back for anything.

    Get a life people!

I agree with u there, but might i ask which post u getting the red for ? Sorry have not been through all the replies to this thread yet, as its a mix up of mine and chetans thread.

There is no need to rub or scratch anyones back, i never scratched chris's back asking him to submit to my directories, but i did pm him about my signature link sales cause hes and advertiser ,and only a fool would not grab an opportunity to make money off some advertiser.

Very well said there, Chris is only human too with lots of money. He however does not try to own you or be bitchy at times, cause power of money has not got into his head.

Some people just think that if they have too much money they own everyone and the industry but chris is modest and opposite to few rich jerks.

And yes everyone likes to do suck ups to those who they think will benefit them, i see no one doing suck ups to me writing threads about me, my sites bla bla and whole nine yards ? Why is that ? One reason and one : I am poor.

Don't worry about my red rep. :) It's a 10-2 game now, and I'm really not that worried. It came from the 2 posts I've made... some people just can't stand the truth, what can I say.

In fact I have a theory about the directories drop...

It's these guys that have a brain with the size of a peanut (the same that red rep you and don't have courage to sign) that keep reporting payed links to Google and make 1000 things to ruin your biz.

    You know why?

Because you're better than them and they can't think of a clever way to overcome that.

But this is just a simple theory!

There is nothing mods can possibly do about it. I got 02 red reps for my very first comment in this thread. Who cares. I have enough rep power to cover those losses. :p

It seems like a number of directories are now being hammered by google. This isn't some temporary google update flutter, but the manual penalisation of a number of directories:

    Aviva
    Alive
    Big Web Links
    ewebpages
    Directory Dump
    Elegant Directory

I've been told that over 60 directories have been penalised.

The most bleak scenario is that it is the end of paid directories. Who will commit the time and money if, someday, Google will just come along and penalise them?

Most likely though, directories will have to change and from their current state - not just a bunch of pages with link titles and a one paragraph description.

It's time for directory owners to get creative with their sites.

What Google are good at is sending out warnings - mostly though their pet monkey Cutts, and I think this is in-line with a Google blast

    1) How would you know if this is a manual penalty or one done automatically by algo?

    2) This won't be the end of "paid directories" at all. Not everyone was affected. Plenty of people will continue to run directories.
