Instead of a pay rise this year i've negotiated a 4 day week for the same as I was earning for a 5 day week last year. I will dedicate this day to getting better at earning online with the ultimate goal of being able to earn enough to do it full time.

Have a goal and work towards it.

Not sure why someone gave me red rep for having an opinion on self employment. They didn't identify themselves. Thanks.

I have not held a “real job” in 10 years. Instead I married and started making and raising children (stopped working after 2nd child) while my husband worked out side the home to support the family. While raising my children I also explored the internet and found a new hobby/passion with websites. Now those websites are creating enough income that I, now with my becoming single and raising my four children on my own, do not have to rush out and get a job outside the home for 40 hours a week just to ensure my family’s basic needs are met financially. This is so invaluable to me as well as to my children who will reap most the long term benefits.

    Life is sweet!

Reading threads like this keeps me going.I've been at it for about 3 months and am starting to see a very slow rise in income (about $3/day from 2 sites at the moment) from adsense.I have another site under construction but that will be it with adsense until I get my first cheque. Some of the things I read here frighten me into putting all my resources into AS so I am diversifying into other means of making money.
I'm 43 now and my goal is to have a decent income online so I can "retire" in 2 years.I am really sick of working for others and I really love what I'm doing on the internet.
I read the new posts on here every day and always learn something new.

    Thanks to all DP members.:)

Thought about quiting my job last month and make a full time go at it. Instead I decided to buy a new car and paid cash for it. I'm back to zero and the last couple of weeks have been very rough due to a G update so I'm glad I have a job right now.

I agree about having multiple streams of income for security but nothing makes as much money for me as Adsense does so i don't feel like spending time building other income sources for less money!

I'm with you, MKInfo. I started doing AS 'seriously' on Oct 1, and hit my $100 this week. So I'm a member of the check-every-other-month-club :D

DP has turned into some sort of strange obsession with me...

I never really had a "job" before, but in any case have not worked for someone else since the Military 7 years ago.

However, I have come close to failing online and needing a job - but luckily never had to.

I've been in this business for 3 years and have always worked for people through out my internet career, I've had at least three times were I'd be bankrupt if it were not for my job and banking the money I make online for the hard times. You'll be making 1500 a month and then all of a sudden google changes the algo, your competition gets a better price.. someone makes a better forum, you get booted from adwords for pharmacy keywords. You host deletes your site by accident after a hurricane, you get smart priced by google adsense...

Everyone of those has happened to what ever site is my main income at the time.. make as much as you can off the net but KEEP your career and put every dollar you make off the net into mutual funds.. that's the ONLY way I've ever seen anyone retire early. No one simply built a site that made them a million dollars.

Although someone's already halfway there ;) Very true though, you should diversify whenever possible and get used to saving a big portion of that money away. Moving into subscription type services is a good idea as this is much less dependant on the will of the mighty google, or any search engine for that matter.

I haven't worked my way through this whole thread (on page 7 when making this post), but to all the people asking how much time it is you are asking the wrong question.

It doesn't have to do with time spent, it has to do with ideas, work ethic, and ability.

Some people make millions in a few weeks or months off of a great idea, while others work for years and barely survive.

Of course this is just my opinion...

My viewpoint is this: When your online income doubles income from your day job, quit your day job.

Then when Google acidentally drops your main web site completely from it's database and halves your earnings -- you're still OK.
