Forums don't pay alot, members become immune to the ads usually. This site, even with all it's traffic, probably makes $30 - $50 a day as a guess.

but if this is the case... they wont take so much burden in maintaining this forum just for 30-50$ a day

I doubt its a burden for Shawn, Im pretty sure he enjoys this forum and the contributions from its members.

There are a few mods here that work for free also.

This forum is full of usefull knowledge im sure even Shawn learns new things here.

Ditto comment above - some of us do things because they are just "fun" ...

From what I have heard around here, forums don't offer such a good return.
If you start a forum hoping to make money it will almost certainly fail.

But if you create a forum for fun or because you see a need for one then it will _maybe_ work.

Forums should be for fun, not for money. There are only a handful of forums like DP and even they don’t make a fortune out of it.

Main source of income is http://www.digitapoint.com/products/isp/

This forum was setup primarily as a support channel for existing customers (products and tools).

As far as making money from the forum, it arguably pays the bandwidth bills, and certainly doesn't pay for the admin time. If you are looking to start a forum as a money making endeavor, I would look elsewhere.

I can't give this guy a bad rep, is that because he is banned? :)

My forums with over 100,000 page views per month has made on average of about $10 per month with limited adsense.

AdBrite is a little better, but forums are not great money makers unless you are really willing to have a lot of ads, especially popups.

Agreed on forums. I've never been able to get mine anywhere; they run as a loss leader, so to speak. No ads. Just isn't worth the extra bandwidth to run them!

My pet hate is forums that have popups loading on every page because the owner is trying to squeeze a profit.
