Hi, I'm looking for another dedicated server stateside. I'm impressed with what you get for the money from Godaddy, anyone got any experience with their dedicated servers. How reliable is the kit they use ? What is the support like if something goes wrong ? How long does it take them to fix hardware faults ? Any other views ?
I don't personally have a d.server from Godaddy, but I have a friend who does. (I also use Godaddy for all of my shared hosting)... at first I was not too sure if I made the right choice. 6 months later my sites have been running great and his d.server is top notch, but he is a top notch admin. I doubt he has ever contacted support, so I really couldn't comment on that. I would say go for it if you are a good admin and don't rely on support too often.
You should look elsewhere unless you are a great admin because godaddy support is horrible. Half of them don't really know what a domain is or how to properly admin a server. Your best bet is somewhere that deals in servers only.
OK. I suppose I wasn't too clear in what I asked. By what is support like, I didn't mean software support - it's a dedicated server, all they're supposed to support is the hardware. What I meant was how quick do they react to hardware support requests ? If you need to contact support with regards to admin'ing a server, then you shouldn't be considering a dedicated box. IMO, with a dedicated box you're on your own with the software - the only software/admin support should be if you need the box re-imaging.
Well I personally can not see why one would go with godaddy for hosting. As you say, for dedicated you should either get it managed or know what you are doing. Right now for example I am selling a celeron 2.4 with 1000GB tier 1 bandwidth, for $75 a month, and dual xeon 2.8 with two 160GB SATA drives for $220.... and they charge more for anything but Fedora which was not meant to be a server OS.
