Long story short, there is a missing person in my family. He has been gone for quite some time and isn't all there. He sent an e-mail to me through gmail today and won't tell us where he is...is there anyway to get the IP address or at least the city he e-mailed us from. Please respond we are very worried.

Yup its possible. Check the headers of the email for the IP address and trace it using Ip tracing tools available on the internet.

You will find the Ip address 'client-ip=xx.xx.xx.xx;' where xx.xx.xx.xx is the ip address. copy it and google for trace ip address. trace the ip address using any free tool you find with the google search.

Click on the 'reply' button at the top-right corner of the e-mail, and a detailed menu should appear. Refer to the image below, and good luck in locating your relative!
