One thing I always say about the media is 'if only you could write the article for them,' I've seen plenty a stuff up in that industry.

I thought this was interesting though:

I wonder how big a slice of the email pie they will have six months after launch.

Gmail, after all, is only BETA. What would happen if they pulled the program?

Yeah considering that there are 3 other applications for the GMail tradename/mark (whatever?) ahead of Google's one. Let's just assume that Google will hang on to this one. I'm pretty sure they will.

i duuno why google is taking so much time to come out of beta ... these days i see error messages when trying to log in quite a few times ...

look at yahoo , for sbc dsl accounts they r already giving off 2GB and 100MB for every user ...

I don't think the storage space is really the selling point for gmail - over other free mail services.

The conversations format and the look and feel is what I like about it and the ads are off to the side and easily ignored.

i doubt there will actually be a real launch date. By the time they open the service, everyone will have an account already (pretty much). But I have to say I don't see many people using thei Gmail acocunt yet. On our company's customer enquiries e-mail with well over 50 a day coming in, I haven't seen one single Gmail account. Probably limited to real use by us techies.

Here are the new features (for the 3 people who dont have gMail yet)

    Gmail Notifier
Want to know if you've got new mail? Let us do the checking so you don't have to. Find out when new messages arrive, and even see their subjects, senders and snippets, all without having to open a web browser.

    Search your contacts
With the new and improved Contacts list, search for a contact as easily as you would a message in Gmail. Add notes and phone numbers. View messages directly from the Contacts list. Stay in touch with the people in your life more easily than ever before.

Automatic forwarding to another email account
We're testing a new feature that lets you forward new incoming messages to any email account you want. It's free during the test and you can set it up in seconds. Even set up filters to forward only some of your messages. It's your mail. Get it the way you want it.

    And finally... Save Drafts!
For when you can't find the right words, save drafts and find them later.

Invitations are so easy to come by, they may never launch. I have so many I can't get rid of them.

Does anyone know how you can send invites? If I go to google help it says that there is a link in the screen: send an invitation to a friend, but I don't see it. Or can you only send invitations after like 10 days or something?
    Thx RMG
