Hi there, I've recently set up a Wordpress blog on my new hosting package, and have copied my old posts and blog content across from my original free Wordpress blog. I'm just wondering, is there a way of getting the old Wordpress blog to re-direct to my new URL? Thanks for any help Matt
$10 for them to host your blog for a year is pretty good IMO. Cheaper than most hosting. I doubt they will let you take your content away from them totally.
I've set up hosting with another web-hosting provider, and have got a paid domain name with them. So no other ways to re-direct the blog?
No no ways to redirect..that domain mapping will redirect http://domainname.com to yourblog.wordpress.com that's not a solution they don't have javascript support so no redirection possible....i lost many visitors..i experienced this once......i got 1500 uniqies in wp.com blog..and in my own host i got only 100 uniqies then.....by writing there that this blog shifts to new place..and there's no other way.... best method is take domain mapping $10 and redierct new domain to that wp.com blog....after 3 months when people would know that your new domain is in use..then shift it....to own host and keep the same domain and same permalink type...DONE u don't loose visitors....
I moved from blogger to WP self-hosted and it was a lot easier. There was a setting to setup a domain, I registered my domain and set it up with my old blogspot account, they automatically redirected my xx.blogspot.com to my new domain. Then I just pointed the domain to my new host, maintained permalinks etc and x.blogspot.com brang me to my new domain on self-hosted WP. Surely it must be as easy to do this on free WP?
