Not sure if relevant enough but, what if you clearly mention in the Submission Guidelines that a certain percentage of the amount will be kept for only those sites that are not allowed for submission to that very directory (e.g Gambling , Casino related) and still submit to the directory, on the other hand if you guarantee a full re-fund to the sites that are allowed for submission to the directory but are not up to the editor's standards. What would be your opinion in this regard since Gambling and Casino guys are paying and getting a partial refund without there site being listed.

    Thoughts needed!

There's no halfway with refunds, you either give it or you don't. Just because someone submits to a category you don't accept doesn't mean you can keep half the money. What reason would you give for keeping the other half?

    Refunding what?

I agree to refund only if the person will refund my time spent for reviewing that site.

I have a reason, Why did he submit a site not allowed, even when its mentioned BOLD and CLEAR. Secondly he wasted my time having to review his site for no good. Thirdly he won't have any objection when its clearly mentioned that i will be keeping a $5,$10,etc as a review fee if such a site is submitted.

BTW i got this suggestion from the fellow DP'ers! I just needed an opinion. You are running a directory and you are not playing bullshit, are you? Its a serious business~

I'm puzzled? If you say you don't accept Gambling Directories why are you even going to review? Your on a loser from the start.

Following the same 'non-refund' principle, every time someone wants to buy direct advertising or a textlink on one of my (non-directory) sites I should invite them to pay first, then only afterwards will I review their site and let them know if the ad can be added. But I keep the fee anyway.

Can't see it being a big winner.

Well, my time and effort needs something to be paid for and a percentage of the listing is what I would keep. period. If the submitter submits a casino or a MFA, not my problem, my review fees will remain intact.

Solid stand needs to be taken against such sites to avoid them making submissions to other dirs else there "crappy" submission saga will continue

I have thought about same idea before. We could add some more payment selection, payment with refund (high rate with deep links) and without refund(low rate without deep link). and payment is only for review.

I think Anon could help us out with his mod. :)

I can see your point that a pending link would only show under the category its submitted but most if not all scripts you have to at least click one link to see the details, what's the big deal in that?

You use phpld version 2 correct?

Are saying that you can't be bothered to click on the pending link to even see the more details? If your vlaue your time so greatly and feel clicking one link is beneath you, then you really need to get a script that shows you everything without having to click on it.

Don't get a job where you have to drive to work as you don't get paid for that either and if your moaning about pressing one link it seems like you need more than advice, you want help, help to understand that as in everything in life you need to do something to get something, or are you one of those who thinks the world owes them a living?

BTW; Mine are 'opinions', and valid ones at that which are trying to help.

Yep I can see,. http://www.dbuzzer.com/admin/login.php Still has the exact same issues as I explained above, you have to click at least one link to get to the details page. I'm looking the admin of that script as I type this btw. ;)

    Good luck.

Very well said, I agree with every bit of it.

Either refund the whole thing, or don't refund at all. Saying if a listing is rejected i will keep 50% of the money ??? Why ???

Is your answer that i will keep 50% for the time i reviewed the listing ???

So you are saying the fee you charge, 50% is for review and 50% for listing, so you don't list their site and refund 50% but can keep 50% review ??

I am not getting this idea because it seems irreasonable.

I think no refounds should be given, it is a digial purchase after all, its not like your buying something hard that you can feel etc.

Why give a refound just becuase the user is not happy with the link?

Because that's your customer and you want customers to be happy and buy again. If you think like a short-term con artist, you'll have short term results only. If you're building a long term business, you build it around happy customers who buy again and again.

That's why I offer a 30 day money back guarantee and would never even consider "onlinedude's" proposal in one million years. This makes my business stronger and people who do it the other way weaker, IMHO, so feel free to hold on to the unhappy customer's money if you want.

in your perspective maybe it makes other people weaker but i believe Aviva just didn't big for no reason you know.

Secondly, it is not about hard object purchase or virtual purchase .... This is a service you are paying the editor for. Service of Review ....

Tell me how many painters paint your house and than you have a party which was the sole reason for you getting the new paint, and than you say oo i dont like your service refund my full money ??

absolutely nuts don't you think ??

This is exactly what you would do if you say submitter can get a 30 day money back. tell me your sites, i will submit 30 days before the snapshot ... or atleast when my approximation of snapshot and just get my money back on the 29th day .... and than submit again (your goal is met) and so is mine because i get a link for 29 days and than i get my money back and than i get the link again for 29 days ?? Let me know when you are ready to do this.

Well, the major pont of contention is whether to charge a review fees or not

If I charge a review fees
    1. Will get lower amount of submissions
    2. People will hesitate in submitting their sites
    3. If I am new in business then well, I am doomed to say

In short, damm risky a proposition for my online dir business.

    What if I don't charge
    1. I will be bogged down looking into crappy shitty sites.
2.Time and resources gone down the drain

But the big thing is that my customers will be happy and satisfied which will eventualy increase business and revenues.

So for now, for increase in revenue and customer satisfaction, I will have to deal with submissions

Small price needs to be paid to be in business. LOL

Note: After I have reviewed and accepted the site, why the hell should I refund the dir owner???
    Insane.
The buyer bought a service and he paid for it when he service has been rendered to him.
    What's wrong with it????

    Say what?

You took the post from the guy before me and confused it with mine. I know it's a service. I think the house painting business and a directory review are quite a different level of service TBH.

Sure, my directory links are in my signature. If you're interested in playing games to get 29 day links so be it. This would make you probably the biggest loser on the internet, though.

No one has ever done that, so I guess you're in a class by yourself when it comes to being unethical. Knock yourself out, if you don't have anything better to do.

Dude, reviewing submissions is part of the directory-owning business.

If you feel that you are inherently entitled to compensation for every minute of your valuable time, become an attorney and bill accordingly.

You may NOT take any sort of fee for something that does not benefit the submitter is any mannner.
