Well I hate to come out of the closet but I have "bad habits".

    1) I spend all day link building
    2) I use a ton of automated techniques
    3) Auto blog generation
    4) Auto Trackback Commenting
    5) Auto Posting To Craigslist Cragslist Craigslist
    6) Auto Submitting To Social Bookmarking Sites

thats about it... I post in forms sometimes with a signature :)
    that seems to help.

    Social Bookmarking Sites
    Craigslist.com
    Forms Like This
Blogger Sites (you create about your site)
WP Sites you create about your site
Squidoo Sites you create about your site
    Link Directories

And if you really, really really want a lot of backlinks make some WP, Joomla, Mambo templates and give them away for free remember to put your links at the bottom.

If this doesn't generate you a lot of backlinks you're doing something wrong.

My thing is if you want backlinks make a "News" or "Blog" section of your site and make new blogs or news articles each day and then submit them to social bookmarking sites.. this will give you traffic and backlinks..

Spent around $100 per month on one way links (permanent) but now I'll let them mature a little bit.

I think sometimes it's worth spending money on one-way, inbound links - but generally I do not pay for inbound links.

I sometimes pay programmers to design tools for me to use as link bait. I guess around $100 per month, not every month though.

Link bait or good content as I like to call it.

    I'm honestly not even sure.

I have clients who spend upwards of $2000 a month on links. And then I have clients that spend $50 a month on links. It really depends on the niche their in, how competitive it is, how their site ranks comparable and a few other factors.

You should set aside a certain amount (whatever you feel comfortable with and makes financial sense) for site promotion in general. And I would have to say that link building is promotion.

I think I spend somewhere in the $100-$300 range depending on the month.

Methods: Social Book Marking, Craigslist, (which I know are free) and outsourcing to someone else so they do it for me and i don't have to waste the time!

    How Many: Haven't counted

Yes links are like sex - you can get it for free if you look, but its so much simpler and less hassle just to pay for it :D

I've spent about $2000 in the last month. (on links, not sex!)

edit- and thats across several sites
