Characteristics of an ideal webmaster directory

We, Right IT Corporation, are trying to develop an ideal webmaster directory at www.allthelook.net . What is your idea about an ideal webmaster directory? What Characteristics should have an ideal webmaster directory?

Hope, all of you will input all the relevant things, so that we can present an ideal webmaster directory.

 

An ideal webmaster need to have some webmaster helping details in the link details page eg. in http://www.allthelook.net/detail/link-13.html, you need to have backlinks, indexed pages of google, msn and yahoo.
Also an alexa thumbnail in detail page. - Example

Also, i cant find it to be a complete webmaster directory with missing categories like Web Templates, webmaster communities etc.
Add more articles related to webmasters for some nice visitors to your directory.

And lastly, i cant suggest anything more as it is a new directory. If it was a bit old, we could tell more improvement tips.

 

first, if its a serious project then you need a better domain name, a relevant and brandable .COM. its my own opinion or may be am too perfectionist but i really cant relate "allthelook.net" with "ideal" !

 

www.allthelook.com is our major directory. This is why we are trying to use the brand image of allthelook. Hope, you may understand.

 

This looks good but you definitely need mods that would be useful to webmasters for a webmaster directory. And of course you need a custom template and SEO-friendly links for the categories and details page as thats the reason why webmasters list their sites in a webmaster directory in the first place!

 

Google is a Brandable name , its even better in the long run, just like Yahoo.. a brandable domain is easy to remember and help you have a unique image for your company, google has nothing to do with searching, but when you think about "searching" the first think that come into your mind is Google .

 

Whops, i think Chris with Delimitation and myself with Voisd have got it wrong as ours aren't that relevant - you make a good point though and it will ultimately help with the SEO side if you have a targetted keyword in your domain name!

 

to be honest i always wondered what delimitation.net has to do with a webmaster directory , i think the best choice will be something That is in the same time brandable, relevant and .com, and yep if you have your targeted keyword in your domain you have a big SEO advantage.

I'd just add that in Ideal web directory the "directory owner" must write the review for each website in order to generate some quality unique content and therefore help the actual directory listing to get some organic rankings and pass more relevance to those links (that's from SEO point).

I like the Jim Westergreen's directory (I don't remember the url) but he did his own reviews and this made his directory incredibly powerful.

I think what makes a webmaster directory varies greatly, depending on the needs of the webmasters.

 

Thanks for mentioning another webmaster directory. So, that We can find out some quality content from there.

 

Expand category list by asking to all submitter so it will cover all required category.

 

Any specific advise?
