Where are all the good sites?

This, and almost every website selling forum I visit, is full of the usual crap: MFA sites, proxies, myspace sites using the same template 1000 other sites have, etc. And of course, everybody says that their site has the "potential" to earn millions "if you do this", or "if you do that" and ask ridiculous amounts for their junk. I wonder if I will ever find something that is worth making me take out my wallet... Does anyone know of any good sites to look for decent websites being sold?

If you do think you have a gem worth my time then send me a PM. My budget is at $100k for the right site, although I might go higher.

I know where your comming from,

Its just people with those GEM sites only sell them they either want to get out or want to purchase something like a house etc..

As selling sites for 1 - 2 years revenue is daunting if you have had income for x years from site.

Plus there are only a few people looking to buy a site in the 100K+ range.

    I have sent you a PM ;)

I agree, the best you can hope for is a site with a well developed domain that is poorly monetized with AdSense or something that you can develop into something much more with a bit of work.

All the decent sites will never be for sale unless your talking big money.

Why would i sell a site that makes me $5,000 per month for 30k or so when i can just sit back and count my dough. If i earn 30k in 6months then that amount of money will not excite me. However offer me quarter a mill and i'll sit up & listen. But no one wants to pay 5 or 6 years revenue for a site

It's because all the good sites are being kept.

Why would someone want to sell their website for the "standard" 10-12 months revenue? Who came up with that number anyways? You're better off keeping and growing your own sites rather than selling them.

The reason I don't sell any of my sites (usually) is because of the crappy prices offered. Websites should sell at the very minimum, 2 years of revenue.

Thats true. And thats the problem because i know pretty much within reason that my 5k a month site will grow and probably earn more this time next year. So why the hell sell it for 6-12 months revenue. It just will not happen!

100K? LOL. Nobody's interested in that figure. Impress us with the multiple rather than the budget ;) As you probably know there've been a few good sites in SP in the last couple of months that sold for 3-5 years' net income.

If you offer a high enough muliple you'll get the quality sites. Offer crap money and... what do you expect?

    So what is your multiple?

The reason is, how many people have that kind of money? Seriously, what percentage of this forum has "thousands" lying around so to speak, to spend on a web investment. What percentage of this forum is under, lets say, 18?

Most of the sites, as you say, are cheap. People make them people buy them - quick turnaround.

SitePoint seems to be the place for the big stuff recently. Everything pans out and separates, DigitalPoint has good deals as there is more competition and of course it is free to list.

The fact that we don't see more high priced sites is that, as others have mentioned, I guess they are holding onto them. Steady income is comforting.

    Just my $0.02.

    Cheers,
    PN

Honestly I would spend $250k on a website if I could. Its simple investing practice. Buy something for a certain value and hope the investment grows on you.

I'm not sure why quality sites have to suffer in the market by something caused by the crappier of sites.

I agree with this seller fully. I purchased a few extremely good sites at Sitepoint which proved to me that site had the income and revenue as stated by the seller. Here I been around and posted my " I BUY WEBSITES" ad and I got nothing but junk and some who state sales figures which are not accurate. So if you want to turn around something quick or like being sold a dream to, then seems like DP is the place to go at times. That being said, I have seen some sites with good potential here as well but they are rare.

DP should consider a fee to list sites for sale or creating a section to list higher costing sites for a fee. Granted this may not solve the problem but it may weed out people who just throw something up and hope someone will buy it like many listings here now.

    Just an idea :)

You posted this same message ages ago. I can't believe you still haven't acquired a site. Your either too picky or expecting to find a bargain for a site which has proved itself. Do you feel big saying you have $100K to drop on a site?

It's just like trying to find a good piece of fine art.
You have to weed thru a bunch of crap 1st to get to the good stuff.

It's rare, but you see a good site on here every once in a while

Nah, everybody here knows that I couldn't care less about what some strangers at a forum think of me. Specially someone who would go by the nickname of "Mrwonder". I am just sick of seing the same crap being sold at all the forums I visit. People with rat hot dogs trying to sell them as if they were caviar.

Anyway. I already have my eyes on an interesting site I found. Takes a lot of looking and a lot of patience to find decent stuff.

We'd like to sell one of our sites to, one that actually makes money, but we don't like all the piss farting around involved and all the questions from people who can't afford it or are simply curious and pose as potential buyers.

Site makes 2000+ per month (OK so not a lot) , the thing is it's growing to big for us and we don't have the expertise and knowledge to continue the growth (just techie stuff like clusterring / sharing servers etc).

But where do we start and how much do we ask.

Is anyone else in this position ?

    (From a potential sellers view).

This is my current listing in adut sites : Click Here of the site that we're currently taking offers on - how the sale will go I have no idea.
