Have you tried offering the change on the update feature. Writing to staff, as I said in another thread is a waste of finger power.

Updates often carry more importance to an editor than submissions and 404's. so its worth a try. But consider that in the editor's opinion, and they are the ones whom DMOZ trusts in this matter, might believe you are already in the correct category and not want to move you. I have had those who were right and those who thought they were right offering updates to change category. Some I moved, some I thought belonged where it was. Often webmasters were trying to get into a 'higher' category in the directory. Don't know your site or where it is presently placed so not a comment on it, just trying to answer in general terms.

But offer as an update and wait and see, is all you can do.

200+ ? There have been about 1300 views of this thread already by many people that own multiple domain names. I'd say there are 2000+ "Dear DMOZ" emails in queue now.

I think getting listed in dmoz is not that difficult. Only you have a good website and follow the guideline. It should be enough.

Don't forget to list your website in a category with active editor.

What is being suggested is that you look at the bottom of the page and it will offer an editor name, but editalls and metas edit anywhere and editors can edit in all categories below them in the directory. Many editors names appear in categories they no longer edit in very often.

Only way, chose the right categories for your site, submit and forget.

Scroll to the bottom of the directory page and you will see the date it was last updated. You can also use the DMOZ active editor tool.

All categories have active editors, because some editors can edit anywhere so every category is part of their privileges. Some categories get edited more frequently than others for many reasons and a tool will not tell you when a category is going to be edited again, it can only tell you when it was last edited.

Submit to the correct category and when it gets edited the site will be reviewed and listed or rejected.

It's almost scary that the folks in charge of the adult area have privileges in the kid section...must explain the child porn.

Though honestly, such a claim as "All categories have active editors, because..." is true on the surface, but then it's also true that "every category has the potential to never be upgraded again". There are categories that have not been touched in YEARS and I mean years. To say that those categories have an editor means that editors don't do a damned thing.

You can have your cake and eat it too I guess, as technically you are correct...but have you tasted it? I'm pretty sure that brown stuff ain't chocolate.

If this however in any way worked, it wasn't clever to put this kind of information in public, it's a matter of time before they start ignoring these kind of letters.

He could use his technique and be completely honest. He could just send a note and say he might have gotten a word misspelled, or left off punctuation or mis capitalized a word....anything to draw attention. The sad fact is many sites get submitted and languish for years.

I think I might have accidentally made an incorrect statement. The Kids and Teens section of the directory only has editors that have been accepted to edit there. Editalls+ can edit in the classic directory and Adult, Kids and teens have their own editors and editor structure. Sorry, so long since I edited in K&T that I had forgotten.
