Mars will closest to Earth at that time from what I heard (on radio). Have to wait over 200 years for the next occurance.

Yup it's a busted rumor. Some friends were telling me the same thing a couple of years ago when Mars was at its closest to Earth. They swore that we could look up and see Mars in the night sky and I told them that was wrong. They told me that I was wrong and they had heard it from the news!

I don't know how these rumors get started and keep going but if you think about it for a minute, if a planet came close enough to ours that you could see it in the night sky as big as the moon we would all soon be in big trouble here on earth!

So when Mars comes real close to Earth, can I jump on the red planet while it passes near me?

You can see Mars in the night sky from Earth nearly every night. And there are several other "Naked Eye Planets". Probably everyone has seen them, but unless you know how to tell the difference, you would think that it's just a bright star.

We should have our telescopes ready by then. It would be cool to have two moon even just for a second, just like tatooine.
