Yep. It needs Silverlight to run; which means it only works on Windows machines. It's a new search engine based on Silverlight (uses Live Search's database, etc.)

I really think this is to show off Silverlight rather than being the best search engine.

 

I'm a big of fan of microsoft's silverlight platform..and tafiti is built on that...
it looks cool...however....i guess ppl will still prefer a plain ...FAST search engine like google....

 

Silverlight also runs on Mac. There's also a possibility of a Linux port of Silverlight as well.

I didnt need to restart my browser.

 

No Silverlight Plugin is just like Adobe's Flash Player plugin. The silverlight plugin is basicly the runtime for Silverlight content.

 

minutes after I installed silverlight my PC crashed. I'm not a "PC tech" guy but the laptop I have is fairly highend - centrino duo processor, 2 gigs of ram, and about a month old.

I'm not sure if silverlight had anything to do w/my pc taking a dump, but I definitely uninstalled!

 

That's unusual for Microsoft.

 

by launching a new search engine its looks like microsoft wants to compete with other search engines
its a nice idea by MSN! ....... the look of tafiti is very good.

 

that's a pain in the ass..they're making people download something just to visit their website?

I like it.. I wouldn't use it because the quality of the search results is low compared to Google but it looks amazing. I also don't think people that aren't used to the internet would find it easy to use..

Not much, as Silverlight is new. The download isn't much; less than 1.5 MB and installs fast. But you can see more of what Silverlight offers and some products that use Silverlight at its home page.

Yep, much more important than downloading

 

all your doing is installing a plugin for your web browser (just like flash and etc)
very very neat, worth the download imo
