New Link Directory name???

We are planning to roll out a brand new free link directory.. However, we are very confused about domain name.

I would be very glad if you can help me out in finding a good domain name

Better start a small competition for choosing a name.. I've seen this kind of small contests before. Make a new topic in the buy, sell or trade forum.

 

Just some pointers: don't call it free link directory. Jim Westergren did that with AddUrlFree, and the name became a problem because he couldn't make it paid.

What is the niche, and who is your target market? You will need a different name for targetting SEOs and other directory owners than you would if you want to market to regular non-techy business owners.

 

Try to make it something unique.

There are thousands of directory names comprised combinations of these (and similar) words:
free directory web world search link linking submit submission rank list website dir big best

And, those names tend to be very forgettable.

And, Obelia has a good point about the use of "free."

I like Razvan's suggestion for a competition.

i think name has no importance .. Just build good links and promote your site well

 

Of course its important, a good name is always better for marketing and branding, look at the name you have in your footer, are you seriously thinking people are going to ever remember something like that?

 

like the site in your signature ... PR 6 with 8.9 ps ??

inner pages 0 ?? name is some other site .... just build a good links and promote...

so a name like this will work ??

so i should look for a name thats brandable, easy to remember and not includes "free" in it.. right?

You could find a domain which is brandable, for example that's how I market Mishre Directory. I first found this domain in the Buy & Sell section of DP itself, go through the posts of people wanting to sell their domains and find one which you like the most.

Yes, I too want to know when I start to earn money from my directory. Well for me its just been a week or less old my directory ( my sig ). Right now I am putting all the efforts to get it Rank first and will get backlinks.
Maybe then I will get more traffic and cash too.
But How really does it takes??

 

Just go on with any promotion you can think of, as your directory is still less than a month old.

Expect to run at a loss for at least the first six months before you start seeing a profit.

 

Making a profit isn't instant. Takes some work to get the ball rolling.


Promote your site and stay at it.
