I thought I would sign up for some hosting to try them out (and maybe make my life a bit easier, heh). I go through the entire sign-up process till I get to the end whereupon I am met with 'Confirm Account' screen. I can click on a phone-me screen link where it's supposed to telephone me, I enter a code number and everything is peachy. That doesn't work. I get an email telling me the account is suspended until I can confirm. I can't log in for online support because I've yet to receive log-in details. Ok, I'll email the 24/7 support instead. The reply says I should telephone a number and speak to the sales staff. Uh, an automated system with no option to confirm the account. I really will have to speak to the sales staff. Wait! They're all busy and I'll have to hold. And hold ... Holding on an international phone call to give my money to a host that has a crappy sign up service? I think not. Something entirely wrong with this picture, methinks. In fact, I think this is really poor service for a prospective customer, especially as the 'confirm' part wasn't mentioned till I got to it and my card had been processed. Cancel the account. I'll take my business elsewhere. I wonder how many other customers have been lost the same way they've managed to virtually prevent me from completing the deal?
I run the reply system for a hosting site. We do not have a phone system. If you need to speak to me I go thru messenger and then if you really need to speak with me I will use skype. And if you system is so down that you have to phone me..I will let ya call collect..but I have never even gotten to speaking on skype. I guess the hosting is good enough that they need little of my services. I have never heard of the confirm problem..I think you are probably lucky that you got the problems at the beings..instead of when you had everything uploaded.
Yeah, I'm glad in a way that I've had all this hassle although I really don't need it. Sure, hosts can be busy with support requests but wtf!? Confirmation? Nah, screw it, I'll take my business elsewhere thanks very much
mcfox, You may want to try www.bluehost.com - have had nothing but great service from them and their support is exceptional. cheers Frank
I already have an account with www.bluehost.com I've found them soooo easy to use I haven't needed to use their support service at all.
Good on you McFox! Yes I love them! They have all sorts of goodies you can install for your site. Good luck with your site! cheers Frank
Actually, come to think of it, I really should do something with that hosting account instead of using it as a means of testing out all of the wonderful gizmos and scripts they have. I've been using it to test out mambo / joomla, drupal, phpnuke, wordpress, etc, etc, ...
what hosting website was this? I suggest you stick with the big host companies like yahoo, ipowerweb, totalchoicehosting etc. small ones usually go out of business or quit after a couple months
Most of my clients use bluehost and they are very happy. I would stay away from Yahoo. Only use companies that use the Cpanel product by Cpanel.net for their Cpanel. Lunarpages and Bluehost both use Cpanel. It will make your life alot easier and avoid headaches. Don't assume that the company has live phone support. Test them out before you commit.
ipowerweb don't have a 24/7 support and you have to 3-24 hours to get a reply to your query. scaredcrow ------------------------ http://privateshelter.com/scaredcrow http://ihmanian.com
