So I'm kind of new to these forums, and I've noticed that there are a lot of banned members. 30% of the threads I go to, have a member that posted in the last 3 days, and has been banned. Any explanations? Or is everybody a bunch of rebels? =P

Anyone who won't follow the rules, will be punished. I think most people are banned because of duplicate accounts or SPAM.

Philosophical question: How is 'spam' in a thread different than helpful links posted or even the links in a signature? I don't post links to things for sale, but I am curious about how this is determined.

I wondered that, too, when I got here.

It's okay to promote your own things, but you should wait until you have contributed something useful (posts wise) to the forum.

Don't spam the forum with things like affiliate links (Only allowed in signatures).

Good point. Use the archives as a resource, but only reply to fresh threads and don't ever reply with nothing to add just to get the thread back on top.

i think the reason is,the forum has such high traffic.if there is a lot of spam and useless posts,it might drive some people away, and they have so many members it doesnt really make a difference if they ban some they just act quick and come down harsh on people

Many people tend to forget that this is a public forum. Although loosely moderated, there are some basic rules to adhere to. If you can't do even that then........
