PR is relevant to SERPS. PR is a representation of one factor which is included in the SERPS algorithm.

In addition, PR helps you immensely when you are trading links -- which also helps you in the SERPS.

Plus, of course, PR helps you monetize your web properties by selling links.

No, it's not as simply as that .. this is where the quality of links is far better than the quantity...

My theory is the more quality on topic links you get the higher your site will be in the SERPS… as an added bonus so your PR will be higher.

They are not directly linked, but as I previously stated before, you cannot have one without the other… depending on your niche!

    Cheers ....
    Gerald.

Not every PR helps. I've seen two sites got on 1st page in G. in few days: one with getting four PR7 backlinks and another with making a post on a PR8 blog with a keyword phrase in a post title.

The question is how long SERP gained this way will last.
The other question is when will Google correct this obvious hole in their algorhytm.

Hang-on guys -- here comes another Noob to share his views:p
I see lot of mis-understanding going on here.

    My theory is --

Site - A - has PR6 . But it wouldn't guarantee it top placement in its field ahead of better SEOed PR3/4/5 sites.

PR6 can be achieved with 2 strong backlinks only.

Now is PR related to SERPs? -- definitely 100%.

    How?

    Well -- If I have a good on-page SEOed site -

I just need few PR 6/7 backlinks with the choosen anchor to be on top.
There are some minor factors to be taken care of --ofcourse.

But it is the Power of those high PR backlinks that will put me on top.

Isn't it why Google is trying to Stop Paid links?

So that people can't manipulate SERPs?

It does not mean my site have to be PR--so and so to rank high. It is the PR of backlinks that count.

And if I have high PR backlinks - I can surely expect decent PR.

They certainly go hand in hand.

Has anybody a hint that there will be a PR update at all?

The only site I know of is yahoo.com which changed from PR9 to PR10 (someone told me, although yahoo aready had a PR10 some year ago).

Few totaly non-topic links with high PR can bring a site high in few days. I haven't believed it until I saw it.

not in long term after google can detect all the paid links, I guess...and if google can gain more users with that algo, yahoo and MSN will follow (try to detect paid links)

Tottaly agree with you, SERP's is a weekly even a dayly calculation of you PR
and if anyone wants to check this theory pimp your site with a PR7 or PR8 Backlink with no relevancy at all with you site( im not talking about backlinks with 200+OBL but a max of 22 OBL) and you will see how SERP increase in couple of days

PR is directly related to income if you have an ecommerce site. When my site dropped from PR 3 to PR 1, the income dropped precipitously and proportionately  so one can deduce that PR has SOME kind of direct relationship to SERPS.... I see no sign of a PR update yet...

Is this your analysis or anybody have fooled you....

Buddy there is nothing like that.... PR is a just a special page ranking (mind it its not search engine rankings) by Google... Nothing is there with Income from PR.....

    This is crazyness....

some one may have fooled you... the higher your pr, the more money some fool will pay for a link... so pr is about income for those who sell links.

Having zero PR gives the impression that a site is either brand new, or it's been penalized (filtered) and in either case I would be very careful in linking to such a site and a lot of sites won't trade unless you have at least PR 3.

Also Google started caching pages according to their PR over a year ago with the higher PR sites getting cached more often so that 0 PR sites that undergo an update have to wait for a week or two or more for Google to notice the changes.

PR is directly related to how many quality links are pointing at your site. So I would say that if you have 0 PR you may have to pay for traffic.

In my experience PR does have some relation to busy keywords, although on one site I have which is a PR 0 is first page google for around 15-20 seo related keywords.

The crazyness is that Google gives a HIGH value to backlinks from high PR sites thus spoiling their own SERPs.

The main mistake that Google made was telling people about PR ... they should have just kept quiet and used it as part of their algo ...
