Why on earth?

Why the heck did ICANN give L.A. it's own TLD? the city is filled with prostitutes, crack heads... i mean actors, anorexic models, drug dealers and illegal aliens.

On top of that the www.la is selling 'premium domains' at $2k per year.... so ICANN is basically saying that the market doesn't get to set prices, but the city of L.A. does... this is retarded.

Agreed, since when can cities have their own tld?

i suppose we are running out of domains, so they need to add more, but yeah, its a joke

    Definitely.

Marketing would be telling people the same thing, if .la ACTUALLY MEANT LOS ANGELES!

edit: are there any restrictions on buying .la domains?

I would think masquerading them as los angeles extensions and selling them at an over-priced rate would be reason for ICANN to shut these guys down.

I think eventually you'll be able to buy extensions, like .dp and sell them. That way DP could give out domains to all its top members or something. That'd be cool.

no it would not be cool. it would make the domain market meaningless and trivial. we are fine with the tld's we have now.

for 100K dollars you will have your own tld but there are a lot of tlds that worth nothing for example most of us have not heard .la before.
