    Hello everyone....

This is my first posting and is related to meta tags.

We have a site www.fcidc.ca in which I added the code suggested for meta tags. Well... if I go on Google and enter some of the keywords I can not see our site listed.

I did this about 2 months ago.

I have been spinning my wheels for a while now! Can someone PLEASE HELP!:confused::confused:

    Thanks,

    John

ok, i took a look at your homepage, here is your problem. Your site is not indexed yet mainly because your homepage is not optimized (no content, proper headings. flashes is bad there, sorry, this is nothing personal). Try to pick up the right keywords to target first, since you just started your site, you don't want to pick a competitive one. Then optimize it to use proper title, metas, headings, pay attention to your keyword density. If you can obtain a link from a authority site, this will help get your site quickly indexed

I'd do a couple of searches on "SEO" or "Search engine optimization". I'd also do a few more searches here to get a better GENERAL understanding of SEO and how to implement it on your site. You're question is a very broad one.

You need to do more SEO investigation and optimize your site. That is not easy, but you can find a lot of information about that in the internet.

Wait until I get back. This should be easy, but a lot of pundits are making it much harder than it has to be.

I'll give you some solid advice then (about 30 minutes to an hour or so from now).

SEO is not complicated, but it's still a lot of things to learn.

There are tons of free and great ebooks about seo out there. I think spending half an hour is more than enough to "master" seo knowledge.

SEO Book is about as good as a blind man trying to give directions to a tourist. It's so full of misleading and outright false information that it's not even funny.

And as I said earlier, META tags are virtually worthless these days considering how people abused them like - well I won't go there. Public decency and all.

Anyway, the site isn't ranking well because there's no content, and the content that's there is very hard to find and get to.

This is one of those times when I'd seriously reconsider rebuilding the Web site from scratch.

By the way, that tune on the splash page is very catchy. If you don't mind me asking, what is it called, and who composed and performed it?

    Hi jcunha,

One book I would recommend reading that is not too long and full of information is Dan Thies SEO Fast Start. Lots of good stuff in here and the best part about it is it's free. You can get it at h t t p : / / w w w . s e o f a s t s t a r t . c o m / d o w n l o a d. I had to type the URL like that because I can't post links yet since I'm so green. I hope this helps and feel free to ask me any questions that you may have. I may be new, but I'll see if I can help you out.

    google ignores the meta tags.

but it's suggested for the others.

for example yahoo and msn use the meta tags

All I am trying to do is to have our site appear under the search.

It does not matter the ranking.

When I type :Fernanda Cunha Interior" I get this page! WOW that is fast...

Can anyone help me to at least get on the list? Ranking at this point is of no importance as that there are no other entries with that text.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

    John

What does this thread have that your site is lacking? Text content. That's what's getting the search engines' attention (text). As I said earlier, you may want to consider rebuilding the entire Web site from scratch to make it more text-friendly.

First and formost, meta tags is old now and search engine do not accept it anymore; thus, this is useless. This goes to all DP members.

This is not true. If you look around the google index you will find quite a few listings using the info from a sites meta description.

Meta tags is an extra element it never hurts to have.

The site in question is not indexed by google so is never going to show up for its keywords. What it needs is inbound links from related sites using title/keywords in the anchor text.

google does not pay much attention to meta keywords anymore, it only uses the description meta tag as the description of the websites on the search.
