I can't imagine Google naming it the same thing as something that Yahoo got no where with "Webrank". Am I the only one?

Google cant name it 'webrank' unless they buy the trademark rights from yahoo, or are ready to get their ass sued by Yahoo hands down..

Total LINK BAIT, I recently did a similar article and you would not believe me if I told you how many backlinks I got :)

You can't believe everything you read, lesson one.

I didn't believe it but it still got me reading. You think the writer would have made up something other than webrank though...wouldn't you? That was like a red flag that a google insider is not saying this exactly (or even at all). In addition to legal problems, taking the name of another SE's rank system seems almost pathetic. Google is not pathetic.

No matter what Google do, some people will find ways to overcome that.

I think it is simply another kind of rumour going around.

It is very difficult to rank a website basis on the content and also I wonder how they could find the relevant links.

This is some guy who lives in North Carolina who is trying to make his blog popular by starting a rumor. Looks like a load of crap.

Sources close to Google ? Do they live in the same neighborhood? Are they friends of the janitor? Or is it the writers' mother who uses Google everyday to look up her recipes?

Who gives a damn about the name when the algo is still the same and it's importance is still there;) the only problem we'll have is with the short pronunciation from PR to WR~~~

PR is easy to pronounce than WR!~! though i still think its just another rumor since Yahoo owns the trademark!

    Wow,

Wouldn't it be nice if Google really took out the incoming link factor? Content would become King again, and spam sites will be flushed in to the lower rankings.

I guess many members here would loose a significant amount of income, but people who make sites for visitors instead of Adsense (thus don't stand a chance now) would benefit a lot.

    I'll take the offer! ;)
(Don't take this post too seriously, no offense to anyone that makes money with Adsense.)

utter rubbish. don't believe it till you hear it from the horses mouth... Matt Cutts or Adam Lasnik. First, why would google change the name of their infrastructure? Larry page and crew programed page rank and real page rank is Google. The only thing that may happen is they remove "Toolbar pagerank" and give us a substitute. But, we will have a page rank update before they do that. I'll guarantee it.
