And the Worst Support Ever Hosting Award goes to.. Midphase! With average ticket response time of 3 weeks Midphase.com easily beats all the competitors I've received an email that my account is to be automatically renewed for a year soon for $183.35, on July 20, and I immediately emailed them saying I'd like to cancel it, there was no reply so I emailed again... Took them over 3 weeks to check and reply that it's too late to request a refund now after they charged my credit card with $183.35 This is just f*cking ridiculous.. It's not some new host, midphase is a pretty big company and offers all kinds of hosting plans, even if they only have one trained monkey in the support team it should be faster.. So another one to add to your list of hosts not to use.. .
I think i would try to get charge back from credit card. Either that or cancel account now so they will get it by next year.
well it was renewed for a year and they said I can't cancel and they won't return the payment, so yeah I might do a chargeback on my creditcard
LoL i really didn't think that MidPhase is such poor in support, I was really hoping that their support is brilliant!
Michael - I wholeheartedly second your opinion. We had a horrible experience with MidPhase for the last 2 years, and after giving them numerous second chances we finally left this summer. The irony was that we were hosting a high profile website, which they could have easily used in their sales & marketing materials; instead they drove our webadmin (and the whole company) nuts with their constant server downtime (a few times for over 24 hr) and a lack of intelligent customer support. In short, it was two years of hell. Here is another interesting review of MidPhase way back from 2004 ("Midphase blows goats": http://ascii.textfiles.com/archives/000189.html
Wow. Do a charge back for sure. Also, $183 a year is outragous. You should come to Bluehost, they only charge $6.95 a month if you book 2 years in advance. IE: Book now and get the next 2 years. PM me for the affiliate code please, as I need the money.
tushardhoot - comparing prices for hosting can be tricky as it's not always apples to apples. Thus, $183/year can be cheap or expensive depending on the exact service package (e.g. we're currently paying ~ $4,000/year and consider it very inexpensive for what we get). Bottom line, from the business perspective price is often less important than the level of service.
Well, in total I spend a little more on hosting, the $218/month server from hostgator, another 2 cheap dedicated servers, one VPS and some other 6-10 shared accounts (I got one with bluehost as well), altogether probably about $5.5-6K/year. But that's one company I won't be using any more.
Sorry to hear that... ...but thank you for sharing the story! (it was "fun" to read ). I recommend www.liquidweb.com (dedicated servers... don't have experience on their shared hosting). Their support has always been great and servers fast (we've been their customer for about a year+). I always also recommend checking out other stories from www.webhostingtalk.com - plenty of reviews there. P.S. Another tip: never take yearly option when you pick a new host. Spend 2-3 months with the monthly option, and then go for a yearly if you like.
hostmonster/bluehost (same company) are the best hosting service I have been with, with Live Chat support, and great features
Agree, you're 100% right, it is the best hosting company in my opinion (I have changed 5 hosting services)
haha,i just clicked the livechat button and no one responded Chat InformationPlease wait for a site operator to respond. Chat InformationAll operators are currently assisting others. Thanks for your patience. An operator will be with you shortly. It kept showing me this, looks like they don't have anyone working!
I find calling a hosting providers support line (or clicking on live chat) is a good test. If they answer, they are probably decent, if they don't cross them off the list of thousands of options.
I just went to JaguarPC got 2 free months UPFRONT after first paid month. Great ram, transfer, storeage...And what little problems I have had were cleared up in minutes!! support was great...That's all I'm going to say before I jinks myself!!!!!!!
"be with you shortly" here means "in like three weeks". What awful support. How do companies like this stay in business?
