    Any kind of hardware error would only affect one localized region or one set of applications.

    That leaves either configuration error or 3\/1L h4X0R3RZ.

    98% of the time, it's a configuration error. Hackers are just lazy. :p

    Usually, symptoms like this mean that someone made a really simple and easy routing change...

    The fact that the DNS TTL has been lowered, however, points to a DNS issue.

    Looks like SBC, a tier one (which happens to be California's biggest provider) is down (or in the process of going down):

    I don't think it is related, or at least causing the issues, as when google first went down, SBC and all the other Tier1's were still up. ( checking on internet pulse was one of the 1st things I did )
