Hello, I have one doubt in my mind, Google have mention some basic things in guidelines regarding to hidden text. i have mention some part here. - Using white text on a white background [can we use little different color for background & text] - Setting the font size to 0 [can we use font size as "5px" and that is not font size 0] my question is, above things are not visible that means we are not following the guidelines, but as i have stated above technically we are following the guidelines. please take a look and give proper suggestion. thanks
My suggestion is dont hide text and you will have nothing to worry about. Dont make it blend in Dont make it small
Thanks aaron_nimocks , i m getting it, but i m looking for some detailed reply. why is it so? and one more things Google has given brief understanding. it is little bit confusing. looking for some descriptive reply for Google webmaster guidelines.
Where is your confusion? The google guidelines quite categorically advise against hidden text. It's considered black hat - a technique intended to 'trick' a spider into evaluating a webpage as if it has different content than you are presenting to the human viewer. Why are you considering it? What do you want the google crawl to pick up that you don't want visitors to your site to see?
See this paragraph given in guidelines "If your site is perceived to contain hidden text and links that are deceptive in intent, your site may be removed from the Google index, and will not appear in search results pages. When evaluating your site to see if it includes hidden text or links, look for anything that's not easily viewable by visitors of your site. Are any text or links there solely for search engines rather than visitors?" They have mentioned about hidden text or links but there is not any thing given regarding to smaller text. i want to know that if we use small text ie 5px font size which is not visible to visitors. but we can target our niche keyword there. so my confusion is will it consider as a black hat seo?
Yes. You've said it yourself - you INTEND for it to be invisible to visitors. That is EXACTLY what they are referring to. It couldn't be clearer.
For a website there is no need to hide text/make it invisible. You can get around displaying information to authorised users via scripts and logins. I'd say keep well away from attempting unethical SEO practices. A clear conciense will help you sleep at night
You are clearly trying to beat Google by trying a trick that is not clearly stated in their rules. You will not win and you will end up being removed from their index if caught. The rule is clear, DO NOT hide text from visitors. This is against the rules and no one who is a honest webmaster is going to give a different answer than you received by the above postings. The examples you used in your original post are examples that Google uses, they do not say this is the only way to hide text. Play by the rules or you will be removed from the game!
I never tried any black hat SEO tricks and i always go for ethical SEO rules. Thanks for your replies and help me to clear my doubt.
