Hi guys how do I backup a site hosted on dedicated server with WHM, need to backup someones whole site am newish to WHM any advice would be grateful Thanks
In cpanel of that account, click Backups, then choose generate full back up, then decide either to backup to local directory or to off-site, such as another server.
login this site cPanel then go to "Backup" then click on "Generate full backup" then you will have the option to get that backup on the same server or you can enter details for FTP of another server then after few minutes (depending on site size) you will get e-mail to the e-mail address associated with the cpanel account telling you that the backup has been done now to extract that backup in the other server, make sure you log in with "root" user and pass then have the backup file stored in the "home" directory from server root and go to WHM and click "backups" then click "restore single backup" cpanel/ftp/sql names and passwords will be the same on the new account now just change the name servers of that site to the new server name servers and you are done
You can find a tutorial at http://www.bonsairack.com , here: http://www.bonsairack.com/tutorials/cpanel.php Choose : Create a backup
I am interested in this too. I am trying to move some blogs. I have a hostgator reseller account. I can back up the site no problem, but I am a little confused on how to create the new one. I cant seem to find the "restore single backup" section. ??
Not possible to back files via WHM - trust me - there is such no option. But you can have backups made on your disc and then you should move it (via ssh/sftp) to a web accessible area and download it off.
In cpanel, you cannot restore a complete account backup. You must ask your admin or the person who has access to WHM
You can easily backup your accounts using WHM->backup config, but you will need an secondary drive for it. If you are taking backup on same drive then it dont make much sense as backups will be gone with the site when drive crashes. you can also setup remote backups and just punch FTP information but best would be get an account from bqbackup.com and setup rsync.
Follow these steps: Upload you Full Backup file to /home in your server Login to WHM and go to Main >> Backup >> Restore a Full Backup/cpmove file In "Enter the username for the account you wish to restore" write username of your old account Press button "Restore"
I realize this thread is old but... You are 100% wrong. Did you not read the posts here from those who obviously know what they are talking about?
Backups are easy to do via WHM / Backup / Configure Backup , but you'd always avoid backing up on the same drive/filesystem , better to have separate drive mounted or use another service tt transfer backup data via FTP. Interesting WHM plugin has been developed by http://whms3backup.com/ , which uses Amazon S3 as a backup destination.
