Personally I really hate the idea that you can damage your own (or a competitors) rankings just by linking to their site.

I reckon the SE's need to sort this out ASAP (if they haven't already).

I disagree. The search engines have to rely on referalls from other sites as a mark of respect. People who build up great networks of pages simply to falsely promote themselves MUST be taken down. I agree that sometimes this means baby being thrown out with bathwater, but the trick is not to put baby in the bath in the first place :)

The other thing to note is that only WebProWorld came out with this. It's one article written by one guy on one site. That in itself sets of warning bells for me.

    Indeed he did:

    http://www.webpronews.com/ebusiness...rocalLinkingisDeadLongLiveLinkPopularity.html

Then he tells us we should all be out there buying links:

I can't say his other quality articles exactly fill me with confidence about his knowledge either.

LOL! PR0... maybe he should be out buying some of those links he's telling us about... ;)

Note the page title for a bit more irony:

    Love the testimonials too.

And the link to us page... no money down?

Well I make free templates, and the sites who use this template have a link to my site in their footer, the other sites that I made also have a link to my "main" site. Some time ago this site was even a PR7...

Current G backlink count: 11,200 has been more, dunno anymore

My site is totally gone in the serps, and replaced by mostly spammy results, even by a search results page from www-search-com with my site on it.

I guess I have bowled myself out :(

Funny - I'm sure it's related but one of my sites was getting over 50% of the AdSense ads for Bowling Sites for many weeks. Google said they had fixed it, but it took a at least another month before things got back in order.

    Yes around that time...

I spend a few days in wonder around this and other forums, and then more or less decided, that I can't help this site, for the time being, and just wait until this Jagger thing has settled.

But the main keywords that this site targeted, and the rest that came with it (by nature ahum) f.i. in the blog, bye bye. Replaced by some wierd not relevant pages and sites, ok not all, but most results are just way off, and this hasn't changed since sept 22. Ok I jumped up and down a bit, but I am not looking further then page 5 or 6 anymore.

I filed a "report" two times with the keywod Jagger in it, but this is crazy anyway.

Here sir, here is your new car, have a nice drive, and if its not working call us (as we already suspect, some of our "representatives" suggest this in public), with the words "NEW CAR", and we may look into it.

I know the comparison is a bad one, afterall we don't pay google (?), but...

Ok I run the coop on it, but that shouldn't be a problem as everyone says...

And its fun to finally pay attention to visitors from other SE's for a while, I never did :D

I agree with you, I would rather that SE's found a way to ignore the effects of certain links rather than penalizing sites for having them.
