Hey all! I never sold anything on ebay before and I'm thinking of auctioning a few domains there. I just posted one auction, but I think the auction page really sucks So anyone care to share his favorite auction description pages and any tips on how to "make it sell"?
I would give you a few tips but after my recent, huge success selling this item i started charging for consultations. I could never sell anything on ebay myself...
hehe, look at the bright side, it's still £0.01.. it might have been just $0.01 I actually like it.. I think it just needed more exposure
I used to sell a lot of stuff on ebay just as recently as until 3 months ago, including websites. The auction description should be comprehensive, very convincing that something valuable is for sale, and appeal to novices. Timing is important, time that the auction is listed and ends. Also, always have a low start price (I usually go with $1) with no reserve as this encourages more bids, which in turn leads to further more bids as the more bids that there are on an item people tend to think that it's worth bidding on. Be quick to respond to any questions and always be professional & friendly. If you're selling anything tangible, have reasonable (not too high) shipping costs, especially if the item you're selling is worth atleast $xxx. And finally, if you're selling something significant (it doesn't necessarily have to be your wife's box or anything weird, it can just be a great deal for people interested in the item), promote it to people who would be interested in buying it. Myspace, orkut & other social networking sites are good for this. If you're selling anything "weird", like, perhaps a haunted camera, submit it to the many weird ebay auction sites.
thanks eXe, Problem with low starting bid and no reserve is the auction will just end up on low amount and I don't want to sell my domains for cheap. The ones I'm planning on selling are mostly in $xxx-$xx,xxx range. Can anyone link me to some good auction page for a domain? thanks
You can always cancel the auction at the last moment if it doesn't reach a price you're willing to sell it for Most bidding takes place in the last 12 hours, with more bidding taking place towards the end of the auction, maximum in the last 2 hours. I have had auctions where the price MULTIPLIED during the last few hours of bidding.
thanks eXe 1. Can I cancel the auction after it's over, if the reserve was met, or only like few seconds before the end of the auction? 2. What did you say before about timing, could you elaborate on that. Which time is better to make the auction end? in GMT 3. Can I make the transaction via escrow.com or another site, e.g. not paypal to make sure I won't get scammed that way? And if so can I put that in the description, that the payment will be through escrow, without breaking some ebay tos
I am not selling stuff right now, have sold some stuff a few months ago though, i buy lots of things though
I'm back after a short nap 1) You can't cancel it once it's over. A few seconds before the end of the auction is possible, however you might get on ebay's bad side if you frequently cancel auctions with less than 12 hours left without good reasons. 2) It depends on the product. With websites, from my experience it's best to make sure that it ends on a friday, between 12PM to 6PM central time (US), as friday is a work/week day. The auction's end-time is much more important than the start time, even though they both end up the same (7 days end at the exact same time you list something on the 7th day). 7 day auctions are good for most items, but if you're selling something high value and are going to be promoting it, 10 days can work as well. If you're selling musical instruments or cds (I used to sell cds), it makes sense to have the auction end on a weekend. Selling a website? Webmasters aren't renowned to be early risers. With regards to timing, colors, delivery time, warranty etc I think the best way to come up with the best answers is to put yourself in the buyer's shoes. Would you really be interested in pre-ordering a video game if the delivery time was going to be 3 weeks? Would you care about warranty if you're buying a replica watch, etc. Some things you can focus on to sell the item better (like fast delivery for items that are in demand) & others it doesn't pay to emphasize on (the warranty on a replica watch for example). 3) Escrow.com is fine, however they have banned many other payment methods such as google checkout, e-gold, stormpay, moneybookers etc. (To the best of my knowledge, you might want to double check)
I tried selling off some of my old action figure toys but no takers. I must have set the price a bit high.
thanks eXe I'm temp out of rep, but greens are coming, thanks a lot! So I understand it's ok if I list escrow as payment option, but do I still need to pay ebay fees then. I think it's some 5% or whatever.. more than escrow? Any other tips are welcome as well
another quick question.. If you set a reserve and it wasn't reached when the auction ended.. can you still sell for the highest price?
In my youth I use to sell lots of books on ebay. I use to hunt around at all the second hand book stores. Get all the same authors books together and sell them in lots of 20-30 at a time. Made decent money out of doing it but was getting harder and harder to get good quality second hand books.
i have Read www.googlecash.com its best e-book about selling through ebay and how to make money via affiliates , this was my Guru .
