Interesting, never underestimate how hard a dominant player can fall. Look how google overtook Altavista and MetaCrawler.

I actually think it is a very poor article

You actually defeat your own argument by saying how Google and Yahoo are so dominant in the search market place but as Zorde says, google is actually a relatively recent entrant to the search world and displaced other more established and much larger budgeted companies.

You also miss the whole commercial aspect off too. You say you can spend thousands getting a script but then only get a tiny percentage of the market. Lets say you manage to get 0.01% of a 10 billion dollar market you still have $1,000,000 income which doesnt seem to bad to me

 

Um yea except that marketing costs to get that .01% would negate all profit. IF you build it they don't always come. People already use myspace and facebook. You think it would be easy to try to convince even just a milion to switch over? Yea didn't think so.

 

That whole market seems to be fairly swamped. If you want to make big bucks online you better find interest in an idea that is unique, or at minimum, one that isn't packed.

 

Work on your grammar, spelling, and punctuation before you try and get people to read your articles..

 

I was going to do a spellcheck and grammar check and such but I was short on time and wanted to hammer out an entry. Anyway, what matters is that people got the message.

 

I totally agree, if there is one or more sites already dominating the area, then there is really no use for another one. All these clone scripts and what not are lame too. The only reason these sites got on top is because they were original. Original Web 2.0 sites make it to the top these days. A myspace clone with 100,000 members (and thats lucky) is not as good as the myspace with millions of members, where 85% of my friends have a page.

 

like stumbleupon... i wonder if there is going to be any compitition with that. It's a great concept. Although, i think su jonied up with facebook...

 

I can't see another site coming along and replacing facebook, not anytime soon. I think they got the formula right.

I disagree with your blog. There is always room for the next big thing. Do you remember when AOL was the biggest communication tool for teens...you never thought then that something like myspace.com would be bigger then AOL. And what about Friendster.com???? myspace.com just came from no where and overtook the market..but that doesnt mean that there will never be anything better.

It's 2007..our technology changes every day. The things that you will see in the next 20 years you probably don't even dream about now. I'm not saying that there is going to be anything bigger then youtube, facebook or myspace next year but trust me there will be something new in the future.

 

Um you mean AOL chat rooms? AOL is an ISP while myspace is a website.

 

watch every one in a few months there's going to be some thing like facebook or bigger.
it only takes one good idea and a big investment thats it.

 

Somebody is always making money off of the latecomers to the market.

Even if you can't create another myspace or facebook, you can create and sell a script to people that are trying to make the next myspace and make money.

Never underestimate your competition btw, the second a company lets their guard down be sure someone somewhere is ready to pounce.

How many of the original "Fortune 500" companies are still on the list? How many still exist?

Bigger does not always mean better. Why would anyone sell any books or CD's online? Amazon is there, and always will be. But there are other options. If everyone used your logic in business there would be no competition, and only one company for each product.


In any business, web based or not, the only constant is change.
