Godaddy services in price and customer service are very good but with one condition that you just sell domains with US address and and have sworn to have not any travel out of US. This may later xtend to other limitations as well, as it seems that godaddy is more catholic than Pope in interpreting certain US laws and regulations. Whitout any perior warning suddenly Godaddy has stoped giving access to its site and domain management control panel from many countries. just imagine that you are a resident of U.S and have registered many domains for your customers. Then you are in a business or vacation trip to some asian, African or middle eastern countries. Then you get an expiration warning e-mail for some of your domains. You have no way to renew those domains. More than that think of getiing orders for some new domain registartions and then again you have no access to Godaddy site until you return back to U.S. Then what if you have moed for a longer period to work or live in those black listed countries? Or if your customers have addresss in those countries? Worth than that is Godaddy has relased registration of thousands of domains without refund just because of the account holder address has been in a black listed countries whitout even letting them to transfer their domains.
Sorry Kooh, I honestly had a hard time reading and understanding your post as it wasn't really clear, but luckily yfs1 seems to know to what your were referrering. However, harder to believe is that GoDaddy restricts your travel - they do not issue passports or visas .... If you're a frequent traveler and a smart business person, it seems it would be prudent to do one of several things to protect yourself and your clients: Renew your domains before departure. Register for longer durations than one year. Set "auto-renew" on your domains. Because of the US Patriot Act, SPAM controls and other policies implemented by ICANN and others, GoDaddy seems to be protecting themselves, their branding and image, and Internet users overall - not restricting your travel. An ounce of prevention ...
He basically means if you have a GoDaddy account and you move to a blacklisted country, you will lose your hosting without notification. If you are making such a move and your sites have value, you should be transferring them to a host that does not prohibit that in their TOS. I'm not sure why GoDaddy is to blame for someone not reading their clearly defined rules and regulations.
This is the first I've heard of this so I don't know which countries are blacklisted - but if you are travelling in a blacklisted country and you're clued up as to the existence of proxy servers, you could get around the blocking of that country (I'm assuming they use the visitors IP address to determine their country) by simply going through a proxy in a US or other allowed country.
Interesting how in this "world" community and "world" economy that IP's are blacklisted. I know that some countries are notorious for the output of illegal services but I find "blacklisting" rather deplorable and censoring. I think part of doing online business should be the TOS I.Q. test..if you cannot read the TOS and understand it..then you cannot do business online..no matter where you live.
How many blacklisted countries are there? And is it a fixed list or does it vary from company to company? Just wondering as I move across countries.

But what if they overnight change their TOS, or worth than that if they add or remove country IP blocking overnight solely based on their own desire. I signed up with godaddy two years ago. You have to relaize people style of life or way of business may change over time. When a site like godaddy wants to block access from a certain area it should notify its customers and give them enough time to do what it is necessary. Not like many cases let people register their domains and then suddenly overnight add their country to the blocked list without even letting them to move out!! About the proxy solution, I used some proxies and also godaddy customer service suggested to use this method for temporary access. But most of their links are opened directly through Java scripts which bypasses the proxy and so you can not do any actual work. Basically I see the way that they treat people is extremely rude and un-ethical. BTW: I was just talking about domain registration. I use my own hosting.
You seriously think a site (especially in this arena) should never be allowed to change their TOS? When you log into your account you are presented with the new TOS when you sign in. If you don't agree to it, you can transfer your domains out. Its not like they stop you from doing that
no one company is one size fits all. The Internet is a very large place..and you can register a domain in alot of places..that is why you get a proxy..not to try to keep working...but to take that time to transfer the domains..unless of course you can not find other taker..because there is a reason for the blacklisting. not say this is you..but it does happen. Things happen fast so companies should be allowed to change the TOS without huge notice. As long as they leave a way for you to switch the domains (reason for proxy).
what countries are blacklisted? I'm in Australia and have never had a problem.. so this "outside the US" stuff you're talking about does not seem to be true.
Black listed countries are usually countries that hit the super highway carrying an over abundance of ungoverned sites...spammers ...porn all pour out at once..the country is black listed. I do not see Australia doing that do you? You are just prejudgiced against Americans i.e. the "outside the US" stuff comment. We rarely come up with lies to make us look bigger then life. We do not need to. We are over normally conceited and arrogant enough without coming up with stories thank you very much. So just say it does not seems to be true..with no knowledge base... sounds like you need to google it before spouting off.
